I have tried to lower by 2.2 Brera by having revised springs fitted along with the Bilstien B4 dampers. I had this done on my last Brera and it was very successful. This time I'm having no luck. The Eibach springs for the 2.2 are no longer made apparently (although you can buy them at ridiculous prices from some suppliers) so we tried the 159 equivalents which raised the ride height rather than lowering it. We have now fitted Novitec springs but the ride height is more or less as it was before. Has anybody got any suggestions as to what needs to be fitted to lower the ride?

The eibach springs may not be available anymore but surely there will be a company that stocks their last batch?
Or you could try the prodrive springs, which may be expensive as two fronts were £130 for me.
Last option would be to get coilovers.

I'm more concerned that having tried the Novitec's which should have lowered the ride haven't done so. The garage is baffled as well..

Is it possible you had lowered springs already? therefore the novitec has retained that lowered stance? Or you have springs for a diesel/V6 which will prop the car up more.
After fitting they will naturally sit up higher as the cars been lifted so may lower in the next few miles? My front springs took a while to sag down to what looked normal.

Dc,

Why not give Neil a call at coilspringsUK in Sheffield. You could give him a set of springs and tell him you want to copy but make lower etc. He's good, check their website. Or get some KW coilovers!

I didn't find that website in an earlier search, it seems a very good price. Might give them a call on Monday. Regarding Coilsprings I might speak to them as well.

In the meantime I have spoken to ProAlfa in Watford and they say they have had the same problems when the dampers haven been changed from the stock ones. Could the Bilstein B4's be the reason for the high ride height?

Just had a reply from Neil at coilsprings . He says they can alter the springs for less than a £100. Sounds like the way to go. Thanks for the tip..

You would do well to listen to ProAlfa.

I had no problems with B4's, put one side by side with a TI damper, looks just the same.

I'm getting Coilsprings in Sheffield to work on the springs to lower the ride height and then Autolusso will fit them. Hopefully, another week or so and it'll all be sorted. Thanks for the tip...

This. The B4's are for stock ride height. Same with the B6. The B8s are for lowering springs - they have a shorter strut compared to the B4 and B6s. That's why I choose the B8s. The Novitec springs/Bilstein B8 combo lowered my brera 2.2 from stock a grand total of 10mm. The front now scrapes sometimes where it didn't at stock height.

If I was going to go lower on my Brera it would have to be coilovers. That said, with the amount of speed bumps I wouldn't want to go any lower than it is right now.

What's a ridiculous price? Seems a few still claim to have them at £220, the going rate for uk. Eibach Pro-Kit Springs Alfa Romeo Brera 939 2.2 JTS 16V 01.06 E10-10-006-01-22
Considering that you used to be able to buy them from Alfisti at 130 Euro. My Novitecs cost me 110 Euro. That's a big difference in price.

I also found that a lot of places that advertised the Eibachs on their website, when I enquired about them they didn't actually have any in stock.

I had my Eibach springs altered by Neil at Coilsprings and fitted by Autolusso yesterday. Ride height is nicely lowered (bit of a pain on speed bumps but then it was never great in standard setup) and handling is great. I will post a picture soon when I've had a change to clean the car and get some decent pictures taken. Don't know how Coilsprings adjusted the springs but Ned at Autolusso spoke to them for me and says they really know their stuff..

Now I've been running my Brera with the lowering springs I've noticed that the undertray is occasionally scraping the road on very poor surfaces. How much distance is there between the undertray and the lowest part of the engine? If it's a decent space I'm tempted to remove the undertray to improve things.

Any ideas??

Any ideas as to whether it's possible to take the undertray off without it leaving the engine open to damage on the road?

Your undertray is a warning that any further scraping may be serious. I'd leave it in place because scraping the stuff above it will be costly.

My Ti on standard suspension only had 100mm of clearance. Which apparently is the maximum height allowed for a speed cushion but around here the council considers that a pimple and starts building them at 200mm (and even 300mm on one road).

I've gone the other way on suspension and together with some other considered changes I now have 130mm with a softer front to encourage less understeer (and the Bilsteins have been binned!)

I scrape my car even at stock heights, lowering it would be a pain on UK roads.
