Hi all,

I've recently bought a second hand brembo 330mm big brake kit for my 156. Its an aftermarket kit and NOT from a GTA.

It looks as though the discs are warped but they have no lip on them at all. Is it worth having them skimmed or are new discs the way to go?

I'm also looking to upgrade the pads and am after recommendations. Being an aftermarket kit would the calipers be the same as the GTA do you think?

Without seeing the calipers & pads it is impossible to say if they are the same or not.

Is the kit designed for a 156 GTA or designed for one of the other engine sizes?

Interested to know what kit it is you have bought, I didn't think Brembo did a 330mm brake kit for any model 156, besdies from the factory 330mm calipers fitted to 2004 onwards cars.

Cheers for the replies,

I've just had the disc off and measured it and they are indeed 305mm. Best not believe everything you read on ebay.

Next question is what is the best disc / pad combo to go for.

The calipers are being powder coated this week as yes, they were very badly painted.

I wondered how 330's would have fitted in the caliper! :lol: I have not fitted these to my GTA yet but I have done to my 155 V6 and my 156 JTD before I uprated it to the same 305's as you have. Ferodo ds2500 pads are awesome. I will be fitting to my 305 jtd and my 330 GTA when the standard ones I have worn out. As for discs I have read it is less important. Pads make the most difference. Discs aid with fade if you have grooved/drilled. I have used brembo discs on the 155 but Ebspares own make on the JTD and found them to be just as effective but with a better cost benefit. Performance friction pads also seem to be highly rated but hard to come accross as I understand. Also I would definitely recommend braided lines. I've used HEL on all mine and they have proved great and well priced. You can also buy just front sets or rear sets. Was useful when I upgraded as I already had the rears.

I'm awaiting some prices from Autolusso for some performance frictions pads, standard discs and braided hoses. I'll also be replacing the rubber seals on the caliper.

Judging from the fact that they look a bit rusty and that paint didn't peel off them 2 hours after they gor painted, I would suspect steel brackets ;)

Ah, Brembo 305mm calipers and some home-made mounting brackets. Still, not a bad price, a fair bit cheaper than buying GTA uprights. Are the brackets steel oraluminium?
How did you come to the conclusion these are homemade brackets just from the picture? They are one poece machined steel brackets.

They're not in the Brembo catalogue, and no company I know of officially sells them. Presumably theres no stamped or cast part numbers? They have probably been made in a local machine shop. The ones I used with my Ferrari 360 brake calipers were similar, and I've had others made up to fit 330mm calipers to standard uprights, so its not a bad thing, just an observation.

From your post I assumed that you thought I had bought and fitted inferior quality parts to my car. I admit that I might have been naive in buying them, but as you said they were a fairly decent price and saves the hassle of changing the uprights, wheel bearings, etc.

Ok,

I measured the disc off the car today and they are in fact 330mm. I assume GTA 330 discs will fit fine?
