Hi all,

The S2 is back on the road but now I'm starting a few teething troubles which is understandable after being off the road for three years.

I have recently had a load of work done to the braking system due to a leaking servo which was leaking brake fluid back into the engine queue no brakes and lots of white smoke. So that was replaced with a shiny new one and then it worked for a bit and the brakes failed again, this time we replaced the master cylinder.. expensive month so far

So all was good although I hadn't been on a majorly long runs, so went out yeaterday, all working but I went out again later and at a junction the brakes jammed on so I've now gone from no brakes to too much brakes.

I went out again today, all good until I got home and when I went round the back of the car noticed that the brake lights were on, so got back in car started it and then sure enough the brakes were stuck on again, tried to move no joy. But rear wheels spun so seems to indicte it's the fronts that are locking on.

It seems to release itself if I leave the car for ten minutes or so, although that's with the engine switched off, haven't tried leaving it with the engine switched on.

The braking system is a dual circuit one with two servos.

Any ideas what it might be.. faulty replacement master cylinder maybe?

Could be they are temperamental things. Also could be adjustment, you need a small amount of free play on the pedal before it activates the cylinder or you will find it locks up as the servo comes on.

Is there any adjustment available on the actuating rod on the servo- where it connects to the pedal (don't know the name of this part)?- (check for a threaded end to the rod). From previous experience with an old FIAT brakes locked on after a while if the adjuster was adjusted incorrectly- too much adjustment in the other direction and the pedal was long/poor.

Thanks all, it seems to have cured itself now went out for a long run - (famous last words having said that I'd rather have too much brake power than too little)!

I've bought some new brake hoses, figured I might as well replace them if it happens again.

There seems to be a bit of free play on the pedal before it kicks in.

If you know something is failing I think I'd investigate/fix things now rather than wait for trouble to suddenly occur - typically when you're furthest from home and it's cold and dark and usually raining. Especially the braking system. Even if the failure mode seems to be failsafe right now, it may not stay that way.
