are they???

I got new rear discs and they are the ones with the "hollow" middle part (so that both sides of the plates are separated) ... (Picture)

but the front discs the same shop supplied me a few weeks ago were solid without the hollow part in the middle... ( Picture )

what's the deal?
Aren't the ones they suplied to me as rear discs (hollow) better than the "solid" ones?

can I swap the front disks to back and rear disks to front?

The "vented" disks are normally at the front and solids at the rear. The fronts should also be larger than the rears.

Lower capacity cars (1.6 and early diesels) had solid fronts but again larger diameter. But they all have solid rears I think. Sounds like the wrong rear discs have been sent because it's very unusual to have solid fronts and vented rears.

The pads for vented and solids are also different.

hmmm... so I can't but the vented ones at front?

The solid ones I installed previously at the front were the same size as the ones it had installed originally...

the new vented rears are not

It looks like they have supplied the wrong ones!
No FWD Alfas have ever had vented rear discs (I'm open to correction on that one!!)

The diameter of the front & rear discs is different, as well as the thickness. The thicker vented disc will not fit into a caliper meant for a solid disc.

Just measured the old disks... they are about 10mm thick ... the new ones are 24mm!!!! so I have a faint idea that they will NOT fit

also the diameter is MUCH larger .... I'm not a happy Pasi now :(

oh, and one other thing... the box the new Pads came in has text printed on it...

it says:

Alfa 164 09.92 - 09.98

are these wrong too or will the 164 pads fit? the date at the end would suggest that they'd fit a old 156 too

No they will not fit.
The pre 2002 156 use the same rear pads as the 166 not 164.
