Wow it's like a dream come true ! I have always wanted one so bad and I finally managed to track down a red GT and it is sitting in my garage right now. I could stare at it all night, beautifull ! Full service history drives like a dream. Any info would be greatly apreciated. Insurance, running costs, tips and tricks etc. I have allready got the fuel consumption down to 14.2 in town, my 2L 147 was running at 11.2 so it's not too bad.

Check the service history, when the belts were last done. A popular mod is to replace the water pump as well with a steel impeller unit when the belts get done as the OE plastic impeller can fail and immidiately cause overheating. Belts are replaced every 4 years or (?) 60000km. They will not last much beyond that so do sooner rather than later.

NICE! GT is a great car! Love the sound and the looks and the way it picks up speed effortlessly! Go to Dutch's exhaust place and get a good exhaust, will let you love the car more!

Congrats and many happy miles!!!

The TS is 60k km / 3 years - The V6 can go longer - 80k / 4years - but some will debate and still suggest 60k k / 3 years
"my" GT is just over 5 years old with 60000km on it and Alfa technicians had a look at the belt and recommended I change it in a year. but it was parked off for 2 years in a warehouse

Thanks guys, I'm the second owner. The car is in very good condition, in the service book it is noted that the cambelt needs changing at 165 000 km ? It was done at 60 000 km and 120 000 km from what I can see. What oil would you recommend ?

Enjoy it, you'll love it. Make sure you know what oil variant is in it. Easy to top up. Diff between min\max is 1 litre, keep it nearer max than min. Always good to check the oil level every once in a while. Make sure you get fresh spark plugs at cambelt change as well. Easy to do at that time. Oil temp always at two or three bars if hot weather, or going fast. Coolant sits at 90C whatever, never seen mine rise above, only after a new radiator and coolant flush.
There's plenty of worthwhile mods to improve handling and performance. I would start with some better brake pads. Once you have got use to the feel and the wheel torqueyness when accelerating hard, get a Q2, you will be amazed by the difference.

One problem reared it's head. Seems like the clutch slave cylinder is on the way out. Found some brake fluid under the car and had a look around and found a leak on the unit on top of the gearbox under the battery. There is another one further back towards the fire wall. Just to confirm the front one is the slave ? Got some prices and a new unit is R760 not too bad I reckon, rebuild kit R280 but I'm not sure if I trust those. Anyway the garage where I bought from will sort it out. That is irony for you had the Selespeed for three years with no problems then when I buy a manual it leaks

Yeah, under the battery is the slave - they are notorious to 'go' at least once in the car's life time. Easy to replace - don't recon, just buy new...
