Just bought a tuning box from ebay 60quid. Decided against remap - probably will be selling her soon. But tuning boxes can be sold on ebay. Aparently they are intercepting injector opening time and injection pressure. Want to try bench test to see how it works and what kind of voltage adjustements it does. And main thing - does it really use microchip to calculate or by switching dip switches changes preset values on different outputs.

Fair play for having a tinker, but I thought these things just fooled the ECU?

Update.
Turned the knob to 75% and it has ransformed the car - wheelspining in second gear. Its amazing. Need just find cheap rolling road and tes with and without a chip.
Will connect FES and check boost on acceleration.

the rail pressure sensor value is lowered through a simple op-amp circuit so the ecu thinks its lower than it is, result is you get higher injection pressure, very crude.
I used a basic tuning box for running with my nitrous kit in the old days.

It only needed to lower i/p vrs o/p by 100-200mV iirc, I did log it somewhere.
Op amp is probably something like this:

i have the ''Italian box'' from eBay
all i know is it makes the ECU think the rail pressure is low, therefore the ECU tells the high pressure pump to up the pressure, or something along them lines.

only problem im having is that my engine stalls really easily. whether hot or cold it constantly stalls!
apart from that, you can feel the difference in the engine, feels much more lively in the higher rev range when without the box it starts to die.

iv disconnected the box now as it is p***ing the fuel away and staling.

saving my pennies for a remap and DPF removal now
