I know there have been lots of problems with bonnets opening when you don't want them to, however my bonnet won't open period.

Tried pulling the lever inside car.....no joy

Pulling lever, by the grille doesn't work either

Any ideas?

Thanks

Sounds like yours may also have seized through lack of use/maintenance.

When did you last have it open?

Does the lever inside the car feel like it is doing anything, is there movement/resistance/springiness, or does it just flop about or not move at all?

Well makes a change Dermot. Can only guess, the Alfa specialists out there will no doubt know! however ---plastic tray underneath, off. Maybe inner wing o/s plastic panel off. Lamp, long rod, assuming you can see the closer catch, try Reasonable Force. As I said, only guessing, but if someone knows exactly how, I look forward to learning!!

The official way in when the catch has seized is rather more destructive than that and I really don't want to go into details on here.

Have you tried getting someone
to pull the level in the car whilst
you fiddle in the front?

Place your hands about 300mm either side of the middle, near the front of the bonnet....get someone to pull the lever as you gently push down at the same time....not too hard or you'll dint the bonnet.

If it opens, lubricate everything in sight!

Yep that worked on mine too, but as one of you is pushing down on the bonnet as said above get the person in the car to push the leaver forward first, before pulling it back... dont be too forceful though!

It worked for me anyway...

You are not really correct rarebear. You check to see your engine is still there as with all the cambelt failures there is a huge demand for a working engine.......Just kidding too.

Dermotjh.....when mine was stuck !66 with a small v i got someone to operate the bonnet release lever in the car while I gentlely pushed down and pulled up on the area of the v and it eventually came free...then WD40 and oil on anything that moved on the catch mechanism...Hope you get it.

I wonder if thats why they put the battery for the V6 in the boot....Just kidding Rarebear.

I know how to open it - pull the catch then go for a drive. When you get to round 70mph you will find the bonnet should open!!!!
Neverbuy....Dont stoop to that level.

There was a chap years ago that told a story about seeds falling by the wayside,on stones and on fertile soil.

Those that listen and learn are the fertile soil.

The wayside and stones may one day be unfortunate and wished thet had given you credence.
