We tried several places in the North East to obtain a competative price for a new timing belt and variator on my wifes GTV.
Have to say was very disapointed with the slow and even lack of response from some of the companies often mentioned on here, despite numerous emails, phone calls and visits to them.

We did stumble across a little jewel tho at, Bonello Auto Services - Classic Alfa Specialists, these guys gave us a good price for the work, job was booked in within 2 days and car returned on time.
Well worth checking out, in fact we were so pleased with the standard of work we will probably use them in the future for the rest of our vehicles, including my GTV, my wifes Porka, our Audi TT and Noble M12.

So happy days, shame other companies we tried didn't seem as enthusiastic about obtaining our buisness.

Hi Bryan the snail ! Shame you didnt get a good responce from the usual suspects - but good call on finding Bonello. Thye look usefull - had no idea there was an Alfa garage on Stepney bank, ( i am dying to know why they used an Austrailian web design company ...)

Does Tony at HHC look after your Noble then ? He often has them in.

Always try and steer clear of "main dealers" due to cost. We try and do as much as we can ourselves, but Bonello's hourly rate is very acceptable for the more "technical" jobs.

I've had my GTJ 1600 brought back to life and upgraded over the last few years with Mike at Bonello's. In my experience he really knows his stuff and is prepared to go the extra mile to give the car back properly sorted even if that means doing some extra on his own time. Don't be in a mad rush to get the car back, sometimes the job can get stretched because he's essentially a one-man outfit with his son, but for the work, the dedication to Alfas and the rate I can highly recommend.

Yes that's me! Think this is only the second posting I have made but must let all you 'Alfitsi' into a secret - I have had my GTV for over ten years now and throughout this time have had to put up with my husband (The Snail) constantly, moaning about my car (must agree, not the most reliable vehicle!), the crap electrics, the crap brakes (they are!) and the poor visibility when driving. However, a few weeks ago my husband had to borrow 'MY ALFA' for work as his car was off the road, he works away from home and so had the luxury of driving my car for an entire week and would you like to hazard a guess as to what he has done? . . . . . . . . . .He's fallen in love with all those little Alfa idiosyncrasies so much so that he's only gone out and bought himself a GTV! - He will probably kill me when he reads this!

found bonello by chance as i drink in the Cluny down the bank quite often & i can't speak highly enough of them! as already said mike & his son david really go that extra mile to keep the customer happy & always keep you informed with how things are progressing. i've had my car in 4 times now & it's always been returned within a couple of days even when they fitted a new clutch, slave cylinder, brakes, straightened sills & a whole host of jobs that i don't think they even charged me for! i'm sure i've saved a fortune using them as they know all the weak spots on our cars so they don't waste time trying to find out what's wrong. best of all they let me have a look at some of the classic alfas they are working on & always have time to chat & answer any questions you may have. :)

Sounds interesting. I will have to pop in next time i am down there. Is it only GTVs/classics they work on or will my GTA be welcome too ?

BTW - a good mate of mine has just taken over La Gabbia - the Italian restaurant just round the corner on Stepney Road. Well worth a visit with new chefs and menus !

Yup - still miss the corrado VR6, but it had to go. It was all Double-6 fault. He was on the corrado forum and purchased a GTA ( thread here). His car was then photographed for an article in Evo mag. I read it by the pool on holiday in Portugal and said to the missus - i want one of those. And here i am !
I do find myself looking at the classifieds on corrado.net every now and then....

I sold mine to a lad in Sunderland and saw him selling it on Pistonheads about 18 months later for only £500 less than i sold it for.

BTW - i spoke to Bonello yesterday and i am taking the GTA sat am for a quote on some bodywork correction. Am also taking it to Spraytek which is 10 yrds round the corner on Stepney rd.

Well - i went to see Mike and got a fantastic price for the work i need doing. He is obviously a real Alfa man - we had a guided tour of a 105 he has restored for racing. Gobsmaked at the level of finish he achieves. What a car !

Anyway - pretty sure he is getting my work !
