Just changed the timing belt and water pump on the mrs's 159 1.9jtdm 16v 2007, lost a litre or so of coolant when swapping pumps, so topped up the reservoir to max and opened the bleed screw next to the thermostat... no air only coolant.

Have run the car up to temp with heating on full expecting to have to top it up, but it's just stayed on max?

Is the system self -bleeding or am I missing something?

Rad top hose is hot once up to temp, lower hose is cooler.

Worried that there's a huge air lock somewhere, any advice appreciated

Many thanks.

Hi hmm,yea u don't say anything about temperature in cabin it have to be set on max and hot...when u will get hot air in cabin then u now system is bleed and air free, normally if u have top pipe hot and bottom cold this mean fermostat stuck and not allowing coolant get around block, and need to be new fit in please get only genuine one so no problem after....u can check old one just remove it and drop to boiling kettle and wach for spring should lock plate tight if move only a bit fermostat gone. Hope this will help.

OLSO just some extra info, when u start car take cooling radiator cap off and let running u shouldn't kept closed system un till get in temp,u will be ok,:)u will se big bubbles and coolant will go in the block engine(un less fermostat is broken then will sit in this I'm position) take sombody ho will accelerated pedal and u look for pressure fast moving coolant faster then yor ****:cheese:from top pipe or little nip in radiator that's sign that water pump working,if u will not have pressure from top pipe u have water pump problem.
