The north coast is hard to beat, just over an hour's drive from Belfast - Giant's Causeway, Downhill Beach / Portstewart Strand etc. Heading out of Belfast you can go up the motorway / main roads or take a blast up the coast road. It's usually a blast up the coast road for me.

Just spotted this - looks to be on tomorrow

Portrush, Portstewart, North Coast of Ireland Travel, Tourism, Events, Accommodation Information - What's On - Ulster Military Vehicle Show

About 10 mins from Belfast heading towards Bangor is the Transport museum - your young fella might find that interesting (depending on age perhaps). The Ulster museum in the centre of Belfast is also worth a look.

I suppose your other option is heading towards Newcastle and the Mourne mountains.

If you are heading up to Portrush/Portstewart/Colraine ( The Nw200 circuit ) & are a motorbike racing fan you could call into Ballymoney on your way up & see Joey Dunlop's Memorial Garden  The Giant's Causeway is also certainly worth visiting

Also if you have time I did an open top bus tour of Belfast city which was interesting, got to drive past the shipyard where the Titanic was built & saw Samson & Goliath.

Gentlemen, thank you so much for that, I guess Portrush and surrounding areas will be perfect for me. Thanks for the links (Lebowski hell of a nice car you have, one day I'll switch to 159, I'll be looking for Selespeed though), military show sounds good, my young fella (7yrs) should be impressed by that!
I'll definitely follow your advice to take coast road, I'll skip Belfast this time (been there twice) and also because what you got me here is exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks again. :)

Not a problem, hope you and your young lad enjoy the day out.
