Hello everyone I am changing my engine in my alfa 146 1.4ts and was wondering what is the best way on putting back in the engine with the gearbox? or without?
I am doing the job at the front of my house at the momment but only have 2 small jacks and have the car on 2 blocks under the wishbones, and I am using another 1.4ts engine,
any help would really be appreciated.

The "best" way is to lift the engine (with the gearbox attached) from below.

If you have limited facilities and no way to raise the car off the ground (i.e. a car lift) then the long way is to drop the engine in from the top, then bolt the gearbox in from below. The first bit is easiest if you remove the bonnet.

I've not done it myself but reports from other people who have dropped it in from the top say it goes in fine with the gearbox attached. Removing the bonnet is a must when doing it this way.

It's much more difficult putting the gearbox on after the engine is in the car so unless you have good reason not to, attach the box while the engine is still sitting on your driveway.

Aye okay... hopefully it won't be toooo bad. If you have the beast apart, if it's not too late, stick a new clutch in there unless yours is good. It'll save you having to remove the gearbox again for a very long time..
