We've just finished a debate about differant chip here.. if you do a search in the forum for chips you should find plenty of info...

I can't speak from personal experience but if you take a look at squadra chips. they've been highly recommended and are apparently made by an alfa specialist

if you do a search for squadra chips you should find some info about them.
Delgado (one of our regulars) is the man too speak to if you want some reassurance about them.

apart from them there's the usual superchips which apparently go very well on the alfa too.

any1 else?

Hi Mikko

The best thing you can do about chip'ing you'r car,is a "handmade" one, made for you'r car.Ex. Uni-chip.But if there are nobody in Finland making theese,I can see the problem.Try to make a search on "Uni-chip" on the web, maybe a dealer will show up.

The 155 V6 can beat the E36 325i. I've raced the E39 528i and E36 325i flat out on the open road. No problemo.

Oh yes, any tuning advice for the 155 V6? Which chip?

Hi,

I saw an advert of Autodelta (a weel known UK Alfa Romeo tuning company) in this month's AutoItalia, that claimed an increase of 5-8 bhp for the 8v models......I'm still undecided.....

Actually I am afraid of opening the ECU, is replacing the chip difficult please and is there any danger of damaging the ECU ?

Regards,
Eric.

Hi all,

Just payed a visit to the Squadra site.

I'm impressed. Performance graphs, driver opinions (which were all very good), and full and detailed installation instructions.
I'm seriously interested in one for my V6, especially as with one fitted, together with an airfilter/exhaust combo i could see over 180 bhp!
The claim for the V6 is an increase of around 16 bhp at 5800 rpm. Impressive stuff.

Take a look if you haven't already,

The squadra site can be found here: www.geocities.com/squadra_tuning/index-english.html
and the uk dealer for ordering is: www.alfasalv.co.uk

Hi alex,

Yep thought you'd be impressed it's a good start you can gauge then if you think 180 bhp is enough for you without it getting very expensive! As for the filter I know Alfa Owner can supply you with a BMC which are italian and about the best, as for exhaust probably Supersprint there a little extra but pretty widely accepted as top drawer, hope this helps.

Oh and Ian who runs AlfaSalv lives about 8 miles from me and is a top man so no worries about ordering and stuff we all worry about these thing's from time to time but rest easy.

Cheers MAK

Hi,

As regards the chip is it true that after the installation one has to use RON 96/98 fuel please?

Here in Malta we only have RON 95 !

It is worth asking via e-mail Eric, I had a couple of questions and he e-mailed me back the same day. I'd imagine you can still run it on 95 but may be it is a tad more temperamental!

He told me to use 97 Ron fuel even if I didn't decide to buy a chip as apparently its not just the higher octane but a much better quality fuel as well, so I have been using it ever since!

Realise this discussion is a bit old but a while ago I saw a Swiss frim called Digital Motors advertising a chip for my V6 that promised 25hp and 20% more torque. Now I've recently noticed that their website "digital-motors.com" is down, but they used to advertise in the UK Autocar magazine. Does anyone else know about this firm and what its doing???
I've been looking for a suitable chip for a while too and while getting a chip uniquely made i.e. uni-chip etc, they don't seem to provide great increases in power. Perhaps the most suitable I've seen was a Powerchip Gold series (for tuned engines) that offered 17hp increase (for a V6).

Hi Elp,

Can you please tell me if the chip you have is a one off or 'superchip' type affair where its not specific for your car as all these chip comments are becoming a tad difficult/complex to fathom!

Oh and has any of you raced the Vauxhall/Opel 2.5 V6 vectra as its another of my pet hates along with beemers just interested hope to hear a 'no problemo' soon :D

Bye MAK

Vectra's, the rep-mans favourite!

The 2.5 v6 in that, is by all accounts meant to be quite good. It has nearly 200 bhp, and quad cams i believe. The only thing that can save that car!

Had an interesting go with an Audi TT yesterday. Overtaking slower traffic uphill leading of a one lane road. I pulled out quicker than him, so i had some lead, and although he was catching me, i kept that distance between us quite well. I was quite impressed. Wonder if it was the slower version though!

Also, one good thing about this weather we're having in the UK at the moment.
The colder air is deffinately giving me more power! :D

A.H

Hi Makaveli
It is the mappable kind and is an additional box fitted between the ECU and management harness. It was € 540,- all incl.
