I have had it on good authority that Benfield Alfa are to keep the Alfa Franchise in Newcastle although they will be moving to a new site on Portland Road opposite their Nissan Dealership!

Anyone heard anything more?

P.S. My Exige is up for sale if anyone is interested (just getting funds ready for the MiTo!).

From what I know/have been told they weren't in danger of losing it. Rumours started spreading when there was a planning application put forward to re-develop the current site and build student accomodation.

Alfa UK dictate all the fixtures and fittings in the showrooms, they are keen to promote modern Alfa only dealerships which is part of the reason why Benfield is building a purpose built showroom on the old Honda site at Portland road. There will be a large showroom and a deciated Alfa servicing/specialist centre at the new site.

The Railway street site will continue to be a Benfield site, most likely Fiat/Skoda/A N Other.

My experiences with Benfield haven't really been inspiring so it's to be hoped they get their act together.

I have a dealer closer to home in Alexander's so I'm not really that fussed, to be honest. Mind you, it remains to be seen how Alexander's perform but I would NEVER pay to have a car serviced at a dealership when we have BMC at hand who have a fully qualified Alfa Technician who uses genuine parts.

Hi all,
I had a new 156 from Benfield back on 2003. It was the worst car retail experience of my life and was the reason I switched to Audi in 06. I am now back with an Alfa but would not pass the door of that place.
The problem was not the quality of work, just a complete lack of respect for the customer. I hope to it has changed in recent years.

I suppose everyone has had different experiences, personally I think Benfield are one of the better Alfa dealers.

I bought a 156 in 2004 and I've only got praise for the way in which they looked after me and my car. I had numerous problems with the 156 but I felt they were always on my side especially when wrangling with Alfa UK over the warranty.

One of the reasons I bought another Alfa was the service I'd personally received. 'Lie'

I bought one cos they are f***ing gorgeous.

One complaint I do have though is regarding a certain member of the Alfa sales team, I won't name names. When I bought my GT recently I'd considered driving to Edinburgh or Harrogate instead of Benfield because of the attitude of a this one guy. Of couse I went back a week later and saw a different sales guy, bought the car which really ****ed the other guy off.

hi guys

it is true, the new site is on portland road, and the new dealer principal is a very close personal friend of mine, and is an Alfa Romeo legend from Manchester who has been 'on loan' to the prancing horse for two years!
all details will be released soon, but he sold me and my dad our first alfas and is the reason we are addicted!

anyway, suffice to say, you will be very well looked after, and coffees and a chat will always be on hand!

They had one in 8C red on display at the recent Croft track day. Looks better in the flesh than in photos, from the side and rear anyway. But its still bug-eyed at the front.

not a mans car, thats for sure - anyway, some encouraging news about Benfield so that's good
Interesting, are you suggesting that its a girlie car, never thought of it like that BUT now you mention it!!!!!!

Well having been told that the noise from my car required a new gear box when in fact it was being caused by some cheapo tyre I had fitted I can't see me ever going back to Benfields!

I know its a long way from Newcastle but i'm very tempted to try Alexanders next time!

i guess I can't really see big fat me climbing out of one

I think they got the front aspect dead wrong and the 8C red strangely doesn't suit it to my eyes

gearbox v tyre = unbe-flippin-lievable

Gainmanor on the Silverlink are running a Radio commercial saying that they are the only Fiat Dealership in the North East........does that mean that Benfield have lost the franchise for Fiat?

I was test driving a new 147 (for the wife) and the sales guy told me that they had to beg Alfa to keep the franchise. One of my concerns was getting to the new dealership but there will be a full collection and delivery service even as far as durham. The new showroom will be down to Alfa's spec, even the £2,500 coffee machine. It will have wifi for customers, they will also have a full range of demo cars.

...even the £2,500 coffee machine.
I know of at least one dealership that had to remove said coffee machine from the showroom as it was a health and safety hazard.

Does anyone know when this move is going to happen? Would be interested to see how it looks, as current setup down by the station looks a mess!

For those that didn't get the email:

"Dear Valued Customer,

Please let me introduce myself;

My Name is Dax Pearce and I have undertaken the task of opening up a very large solus Alfa Romeo dealership for Benfield which we move into next month which at that time the site will be on going with its new re-fit which will be completed by year end or at the latest very early January. The last two years I have been running a Ferrari dealership which was very exciting indeed but the previous 11 years I was involved with Alfa Romeo and the brand has stayed in my blood hence the re-union !

I welcome you to the forthcoming showroom ( address below ) and to a new world of Alfa and a customer service of second to none. We also have new Alfa trained technicians with a huge workshop facility, a new service team that can offer competitive pricing on servicing and one that is dedicated to the brand and the customer.

For any information on sales / parts or servicing in the meantime please feel free to email me at your earliest convenience.

I look forward to shaking your hand on your first visit to our new luxurious dealership.

Warmest Regards

FORZA ALFA !

Dax Pearce

I must say, after some less-than-brilliant service from Lyles lately, and some noticeable improvements in Benfield, I think I'll be giving them the benefit of the doubt. If they can compare to Western in Edinburgh, I'll be happy.
