I have commited the cardinal sin of letting the battery on my GTV go flat, and could do with some advice on how to remove it from it's easily accesible perch in the boot.

The owners manual doesn't seem to offer much help, so could someone offer a simple guide to disconnecting and removing it please.

Cheers
Ian.

Undo negative terminal ( 8mm nut on mine )
Undo positive terminal ( 8mm again )

Undo retaining bolt tightening the retaining strap to the bulkhead/shelf

Lift retaining strap out of the way

Remove battery

Refitting is reverse.

open boot remvove spare wheel if fitted open rear right side upper compartment cover with knurled nuts (usually hand tight) pull down flap exposing battery undo battery terminals I remove negitive terminal 1st. then the positive. undo battery securing plate nut remove battery.............before you reassemble (suggestion )fit a battery isolation switch and a flying cable end to each battery lead terminal with insulated ends and long enough to reach into the boot to allow for future charging. I doubt if you will do any harm trickle charging the battery while in situ but thats just my opinion hope that helps :)

I use a deep socket on a long extension. But it can be done almost as easily with an open ended spanner. Just make sure you do the negative first as there is too much chance of shorting positive to the car body in the confined space.
