As all regulars will know, we do have a recurring problem with members who have been banned for continuous aggravational behaviour returning - either to do so again, or because they've recognised the resource they've lost by getting themselves banned in the first place.

What has started to happen more and more though, is that anyone perceived to be of this type - and the needed evidence seems to be lessening too - is baited and hounded with almost every post they make. This does not reflect well on AO and it is possible an innocent newbie will inadvertently receive the same treatment.

What we are asking is, no matter how tempting it may be to react in this manner, please stop doing this, ignore the questionable post and report it. We will investigate and collate the evidence - it may sometimes take a little time.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Returning trolls and malcontents

This is a genuine post and not meant in any way to be inflammatory.

I'm referring of course to the sticky thread posted by Bazza.

If someone is banned and then tries to return, surely their IP address sets off alarm bells? And if they're banned, they're banned?

Of course, in the meantime they may have changed providers or moved house etc. But is it AO policy to recognise previously banned members if possible, and re-enforce the ban?

There are various ways that we can spot returnees, IP address is one. Not all are conclusive, and not all work in every case unfortunately.

As you say, if someone is banned for bad behaviour, and tries to return, they will be banned again if we are satisfied it is them.
