My radio unit has developed a fault where the backlight LED has significantly reduced luminosity and cannot be read in daylight but only at night with the headlights turned off - not exactly ideal.
Spoke to a couple of dealers who said replace entire unit at cost of £2000, not possible to fix but surely that's not true is it?
Anyone can help I'd be eternally grateful.

The backlight is actually a CCFL, but nowadays, putting LEDs in there is a good idea. I'm sure it's DIYable without too much drama if you went LED.

The usual problem with CCFL is the high voltage inverter failing - you'd be removing that if you went LED.

Forgot to say, a failing backlight is a known problem with them.

Impressed a dealer can actually offer a new ICS though!

You can get the inverter reasonably easily, it’s a common problem. If you can do basic soldering it’s simple.

Unfortunately, as Maplin is no more, the link in the thread referenced no longer works. Does anyone know the specification (and possible sources) for the inverter?
