Oh my god!! How can Westover Alfa charge 400 pounds (near as dammit) for a 48k service - I asked what was included, and they said oil and air filter, and visual inspection of the cambelt, suspension, brakes, and checking the engine diagnostics!! A cambelt service is about 600 quid, so none of it adds up to me at all.

Basically guys and gals, I need to find an excellent AR specialist in East Dorset/West Hampshire who won't take the mickey - Ideally I'd like the cambelt done and variator done for 500 sovs all in, or risk it and get a normal service for 150 ish - I know there are limited dealer reviews on the site, but I need personal recommendations please !!

Oh and I'm willing to go to London if it will be that much cheaper!!!

You might want to try Garrison Motors of Tidworth. They did a 36,00 mile service on my GTV 3.0L and MOT for £142.00 all in. That included the correct 10/40 semi-synthetic oil change and filter.

I am not sure they can undertake electronic diagnostic work as they are not part of the Alfa network. Let me know if you need their number.

Thanks for the info, but I'm really after an AR specialist - so therefore not a main dealer. Specialists should have the correct diagnostic stuff shouldn't they. Autodelta sound good, even though they are in London (good excuse to go shopping, and get those clear repeaters fitted)!!

er... not sure what happened to my mesage there.. but what i was writing was I have been to Black and White garage near Newbury and they have been pretty good. They are a specialist, not officail
dealer and prices are not cheap, but cheaper than main dealer and seem pretty good - knowageable etc..

I had the 48k service done with a few other things (windows adjusted etc) for about 320 quid i think it was... Not sure if thats good, but it was cheaper than offical dealer...

but i agree - most are a rip off escpecially the hourly charge..

Black & White in Newbury, that's where my Heidi came from 74,000 miles ago! According to the service record anyway. Do you think they would welcome her back like an old friend and give a discount service?
I was just quote £49 inc vat for an oil & filter change at Alfa in Epsom, seems very reasonable, as doing it myself would probably cost: oil £20, filter £10, paying neighbour not to call the council about the oil slick spreading down our road £250...

Have you tried RED ALFA near Spetisbury. There just up the road from you, they're alfa specialists but not franchised and charge £30 an hour!

Are you prepared to travel to the midlands?

If so I can recomend non dealer but dedicated alfa specialist ! ! (WAD Automotive - their details are on this site). They did my cam belts, tensioner & variator for £350+vat. They changed my oil & filter for FREE as I supplied the oil & filter. They also did loads of other stuff at good prices and have all the diagnostic stuff but best bit they have over the dealer is - they know what they're doing!!

Just had the timing belt changed - total cost £220 including parts and labour.

Normal service is about £120.

Sounds like Alfa UK are just ripping people off. Not only do they give very poor service but charge ridiculous prices.
Not surprising that so few people buy Alfas.

Black & White = £350
Autodelta = £180
Red Alfa Spetisbury = £150
Westover Alfa Romeo = remortgage my house for the sake of an airfilter!!!

Talk about hard choices!!!!

I'd agree with Andy on this one.
I took my 96 2.0L GTV (when I had her) to Garrison motors in Tidworth for a 96K service, they charged £240 for oil / filter change, plug change, belt inspect, brake check, etc.
They ARE alfa specialists, and the owner, an alfisti himself, certainly knows what he's talking about, and he has some handy contacts for refurbed 2nds, at a very good price!!
Give 'em a go, just give 'em a go!!! :)

Well,

Got the car back yesterday afternoon, with the 48k service done, and a new wiper blade fitted for the princely sum of £146! Admittedly, the car wasn't valeted, and the courtesy car manky and a bit old compared to what you'd get from a main dealer, but then I'm 250 quid better off, and they seem to have done the job very well.

They didn't call me to tell me the car was ready (but they are certainly not the first garage to do that) and there was some work needed doing on the suspension (rose joint or something which I would have asked them to do the same day if they had called to tell me about it.

So overall, location apart, I would give Red Motori in Spetisbury a big thumbs up!!

paid £220 for the 48k on the 166 3.0, at Autoworld (Main Dealer).

Think you've been done mate! Check the service schedule in your stamp-book - it lists the number of hours labour for each service, multiply this by the dealers hourly rate & add £100 for good measure.

Autoworld are £85 per hour, so it cant be much more than that, and I wouldn't think the 166 & GTV 48k service are much different.

Sorry, I don't see how I've been done when it only cost me 146 quid - if I'd paid 400 quid at Westover Alfa I'd have been done!

Hi. Anyone had any experience of Bishops in Guildford? Used to go to Cleveland Cars in Ash but they have stopped trading only a few weeks ago.
