:lol: not picking up till next week but will put some pics up,and yep agree waxoil deffo everyware this will be my pride an joy i hope :lol: got a mk2 punto at the mo and that must have the only solid floor on a w reg punto around my way 
so hopefully alfa will be good if not a welding i will go but felt solid in all the usuall rot spots so finger's crossed

needs a water pump it's noisy as fook and gets a bit warm when you drive it so it's parked up till i get a full cambelt kit,balancer kit,water pump and full service but well happy for what i payed after reading all the threads on rotten floors i decided to check for sure so took the seats and carpet up (ready to be cleaned if my cleaning stuff ever comes) and had a look, the floor is like new inside car gave it a good prod but nothing all painted up like new,did take note some problems seem to come from that black sound deadening stuff being not pushed down in the recess's of floor mine is firmly down so hopefully it is just the surface rust spots from fools (being polite) that have put jacks in wrong places over the years,mined it's not all good news have oil in header tank now,could be oil cooler but looks like head gasket is seeping oil around the perimeter of head,so going the whole mile and gonna take head off give her a decoke while i'm at it,full service new belts an all,recommend any good places to get parts cheap'ish winter project i guess

If you're going to do the belts, then a head gasket isn't a huge deal more work.. may as well get it done and sorted.
For the sake of saving a few quid, I'd use a genooine parts head gasket.. The one that arrived for my '55 was made by Victor Reinz .. and Reinz sell their gaskets under their own name as well as in the AR packaging. Search for a distributor.
The other gaskets you'll need (exhaust, inlet manifold, rocker etc.) are less crucial or simpler to change if they start leaking, so a regular auto factor should have a kit.
When your beast is in bits, use parafin to clean off the brown varnish.

Aye! My old '55 had baked on black gunge and varnish inside the heads.. 200,000 miles and changing the oil at 12,000 miles ..
It's probably harmless (just sits there really) and the oilways were only slightly furry so no danger of any blockage.. but I wanted to remove as much as I could just for the sake of it.
Parafin and some gentle abrading with a small toothbrush (clean it though, before you give it back to your missus..) is the most effective.
You don't need any new head bolts etc. to refit the head.. just fit all the nuts to "quite tight" using a socket and then finally torque them up. Start from the middle outwards each time.. doing up the one diagonally opposite the one you just tightened. Same when you torque them up.
