Fletch, don't feel so bad, when I bought my '97 16v 6 months ago, in the history file was a receipt from just 2 years previous for £7500. Safe to say I paid a fraction of that.

However, it is the entire car market thats flat currently, sell cheap, buy cheap, its all relative, I saw a 156 for just over £3k recently.

A 156 for just over 3K? eek!

What was wrong with it :D

I wonder if there's any joy to be had at auctions, buying more recent Alfas.

stick to 155's matey ive drove a 156 recently v6 24v lovelly engine shame about the car felt like a whale on ice ! wallowy front heavy and braking was erm well i do drive a 1.8 suppose its the weight of the engine. not that i dont like them i loved them when they came out but there is nothing exclusive about them even the v6 to many reps got them and trashed them expecting them to be a race car.er i think i better stop there before i go to far as i do like em just to many for my liking.

Never driven one, but I've heard the same said by others, not least the Alfa garage I had my expired 155 recovered to!

I've had both an 8v (from new) and a 16v (the one that just died). The 8v isn't such a good car to drive, but the 16v is superb. Pity about the (relatively) fragile engine.

Anyway, with a bit of luck I should have another one soon. Heh heh

Thanks Fletch.

I'm going to look at a 48k car this week. Sounds good, so maybe that will work out. Keep you all posted  .

Yup, I paid 10,500 for my first 155 8v. It was written off a couple of years ago when some prat lost it coming the other way around a bend in an A-road and spun into mine at 50mph. Got 3000 from the insurance co which bought the one which just expired.

Moral: No point in buying a new Alfa. I reckon 2 years old is about optimum.

Vish,

Out of interest, in your smash, how badly beat up did you get. I've often wondered how good/safe a 155 is in a big crash.

It was actually my wife and daughter in the car at the time (no, it wasn't her fault wink )

Put it like this, I asked her the other day what she thought about getting something other than an Alfa given my recent bad experience with the cam belt on my 155.

Quote: "That car saved my life"

Says it all.
