I was at a Alfa dealership, and looked at a BRAND NEW 2009 ALFA GT...it looked like it had an ARESE v6 (polished intake pipes) under the bonnet...

I thought they closed the ARESE factory down and were using GM engines??

The V6 production ended in 2005 at Alfa Romeo Arese Plant, it was built a stock of five thousand, to be used Lancia Thesis, Alfa 166 and Alfa GT models. The engine was replaced in the 159 and Brera by a new 3.2 L V6 unit combining a General Motors-designed engine block with Alfa Romeo cylinder heads and induction. British automotive engineering company Cosworth was keen to buy assembly lines of Alfa Romeo V6 engine, but the Italian company did not want to sell it. The last version of 3.2L engine was Euro4 compliant, so it would been possible to produce it couple of years more. The engine designer Giuseppe Busso died only couple of days after the last engine was produced in Arese.

sounds like they built enough engines to keep rolling them out long after the production end date.

write down the chassis number, then we can find out when it was built.

the GT is only 1 of 3 cars that was the last to use the old busso unit, since the end of the 156 and 147 GTA's. at the end of production in 2005 it had stock of around 5000 units, to be used in the 166, GT, and Lancia Thesis:thumbs:

VINs are on the adverts, the 2008 one is ZAR93700003447232 and the 2009 one is ZAR93700003447514..

Didn't realise the GT's chassis numbers started ZAR937 just like the 147s.

I'm surprised.
Both listed as October 2008 build...

there are rumours in Oz - i haven't seen it posted on AO but maybe i missed it - about Alfa having a batch of spare Arese V6 engines (over 100) with which they will build a limited run of brand new 2010 GT's. true or untrue?!!! we'll have to wait and see. ;)
