Hey,

I am planning to buy an ENG Custom unit.
I have a few questions:

- When using wired AA, does it charge the phone through the USB?

-when using wired ACP, does it charge the phone through the USB?

-Is anyone using wireless AA successfully with a Samsung S9 phone, running Android 10? Does it get hot or laggy?

If you could help me with any of these questions, I would really appreciate the help.

I'll help where I can:

1. Yes, it charges but veeeery slowly.
2. I don't have iPhone so can't feedback sorry
3. I use wireless AA with a Note 10+ and it's seamless (running Android 11 now, but was working well with Android 10 before it updated). It doesn't get hot, and discharges approx. 15% per hour when using spotify and waze wirelessly. To top up, I have plugged into the centre console cigarrette port a Baseus 45W 6A dual USB charger which is provides a massive boost to the phone battery if needed in a short time, much more effective than USB charging, highly recommended.

Hi - I would love to have more details on this option. Makes me nuts not having Apple Carplay. I was truly surprised Alfa did not have it until 2018.

Santa was very good to me and got me an Eng-Custom Apple Carplay module and I finally got to fit it today.
No major issues with the fitting. The instructions were in Italian and not 100% clear but it's not too hard to figure out. It is the newer Imperium unit that has wireless Apple Carplay and also uses the OEM microphone.
I did have to contact Eng-Custom on WhatsApp and they came back straightaway and were very helpful. The issue was that the ignition needs to be turned on for it to work. I hadn't seen this mentioned anywhere in the various forum posts that I'd read. You also had to enable the OEM as it's set up to use a non-OEM by default. He also got me to set it to RHD as well.
Otherwise very happy and bring the car bang up to date. I was thinking of adding a reversing camera, anybody have any experience with this?

Is there any way to recognise version or they are just sending the latest one ?

It's the 2nd version I ordered but I don't think there is a difference between the two. Best bet would be to drop them an email. They are pretty responsive.

+1 for Eng custom. I got one a few weeks ago and it does everything seamlessly. I use AA wired on my work phone (an ancient and terrible Galaxy J6) and wirelessly on my personal one (a Pixel 4a). Wireless has given me no trouble and the wired connection is perfect up to the point that the J6 gets too hot charging and conks out 🤣

2. Is it possible to buy something in addition to the old version in order to use a regular microphone in the Google assistant?

Eng-custom released a reverse camera like the orginal but they've updated the cable. There is a thread Rear camera retrofit

Just replaced screen with 8.8" one and installed eng-custom android auto and start stop off. Everything working 👌. Everything went pretty easy except it is little bight tight fittment for all the cables under the dash after installing AA module.

As battery is draining on the phones pretty quickly when using AA wirelessly did somebody bought this cup style wireless phone charger? It is looking very convenient to have it at that place.

I know this forum is a little old, but I just installed the Eng Custom unit in my Alfa. Blew a fuse but did not know that. My car was a paperweight and the nearest dealer is 5 hours away.

Enter Eng support guy Lio. He stayed on the phone with my husband for HOURS when it was late in Italy. What an amazing guy and amazing customer support.

Just discovered I have no audio with the unit. Poor guy in Italy is probably tired of me!!!!

I installed the Integrated Automotive kit for Apple Carplay / Android Auto. Installation was straightforward and it works like it should.

The only niggle I have is swithcing audio sources. If I want to see Carplay but listen to the car's radio, then I'll only get the radio audio from the speakers & nothing from the Carplay. If someone for example calls me, I have to switch from Carplay to the car's infotainment, go to the Media menu and then go back to Carplay to answer the call.

Coming from a 2019 BMW 3 series G20 which has an extraordinarily deep integration with Carplay, that's quite a step back. But I did not get the Giulia because of the infotainment. I got it because how it drives. And it does drive a lot better!! (320d xDrive vs Q4 Veloce 280bhp).

Does that one use original mic or you need to install seperate one? Why didn't you go the for eng custom one which is 350 euros?

Now going through this thread it looks like I should have, as it seems to be pretty much the same thing 🤦‍♂️. I bought the other one based on another thread... Oh well, I'm a couple of nice dinners poorer than I could've been 😄.

The Integrated Automotive one uses a separate mic just like the ENG Custom one apparently ENG-Custom updated their module to use the factory mic.
