Just wondering if I should try Redex when I get my Spider serviced as the car is now 16 years old and surely lost some power since then?

Don't know if you lot have seen this or not but Fifth Gear got 6hp back using Redex alone from a Corrado VR6.

But how long does the power gained last before losing it all again.

I had an MOT failure for emissions on an old MR2 I used to own. The mechanic recommended Redex and going for a *legal* fast speed blast down the motorway. It did the trick!

I would only do it every six months though, to get the biggest benefit for your money - you have to build up the crud before you can shift it. Unless you regularly use fuel with additives after Redexing it.

97Ron in my view should be only used for the track and high performance driving only, that's what it was designed for.

By using it & being stuck in traffic is going to just carbonize your sparkplugs, as the higher octane fuel burns slower.
So by trying to clean your engine by using 97ron can make things worse because of the fuel isn't burning properly at low speeds.

Imo only use the 97Ron fuel if your going to run the engine at high speed, ie once a month on a country rd blassed or on a track.

the only time i use 95 is when im stuck away from tescos or shell. its a sports car.its been tuned for performance. high octane fuel burns cleaner ,hotter and releases more power. in the long run you also get increased mileage which offsets the extra cost, better running engine and lower service costs. as a garage owner i advise all my customers to put the best fuel and oil in their cars and without exception when they do they report a much better working car as a result. cheap fuel and oil will bite you big time in the long run. why buy a sportscar and treat it like a punto.
