My wife works for a small engineering company and I recently suggested they get into some car part refurbishment for me. To begin with, I sent my dirty old V6 fuel rails to them. I've just got them back and they look like new! (See picture).
I am now trying to convince them to do some powder coating for me too.
Since a lot of you out there (especially with lovely V6 engines) might like this, I am trying to gauge how much interest there is. The fuel rails cost me £30 to get cleaned and refurbished in nickel. I also got a set of high grade stainless bolts for £40 - which is cheaper than ebay.
If enough people are interested then I could sort some good prices. Let me know if you are interested here and if enough people want bits doing then we could all be onto a winner! They may also consider doing strut braces if enough people are interested.
By the way, I don't get anything out of it - they just get to experiment with my engine parts!
I'd be interested in getting my fuel rails refurbed too please. Set of bolts would be good too. Searched for a thread on removal and sounds an easy job which i hope it is.
I wish you had posted this some weeks back before I hand cleaned and polished my ones. Took hours. It is the set that are spare ready to be refitted later in spring, I am deciding how they hold out from tarnishing but think a spray of high temp clear coat will be in order on mine.
However I am liking yours more, original look.
Cost me 70 for spare rails in condition initially seen, so with refurbishment would have been £100 looking original.
Perhaps when I get my old ones from car in change over will get to you to refurb.
There seems to be some interest in this so the Mrs is putting together a business case for her boss. I'll keep you all up to date with progress but I'm hoping it won't be too long before I can pass on details here. I'll try to get more photos of the work done as and when I can too.
If you want to remove the fuel rails simply undo the hose clips and unbolt the rails - fuel will run out of the rails, and go everywhere - helps to have a spare bolt that you can shove up the fuel pipes and clip into place to stop them dripping everywhere.
Don't turn on your ignition at this point unless you have removed the relay (1 of 4 relays under the black engine cover, drivers side, on a phase 1).
The plastic caps cover a valve which releases the pressure from the fuel rails. You'll need to hold a cloth over the end of the valve or do it with a cold engine.
The fuel rail is easy enough to remove.
At the moment it is looking like it will be a turn around of a week to have the fuel rails refurbished and returned. As soon as I get the go ahead I'll put the company details and phone number here so people can enquire.
They may also consider doing strut braces if enough people are interested.
By the way, I don't get anything out of it - they just get to experiment with my engine parts!
Be interested in seeing what you get by way of a strut brace as looks like they do some excellent work on the fuel rails.
If it helps members towards the end of April I will have swapped my fuel rails out for my refurbished ones. So may be able to then use my spare set as a sort or floating exchange item for members thus allowing my spare set to be done then an exchange service so that members cars do not need to be immobile whilst awaiting refurbishment.
Saying that if it only takes a week seems quite reasonable time anyhow.
Hi all.
Thanks for all the replies. I've not been here for a few weeks. I'll get another update later this week. There seems to be plenty of interest so hopefully i can sort this out.
Sorry for the delays. For fuel rail refurbishment you can contact Autolusso Bournemouth or SMB Plating in Plymouth: Ask for Ken Carroll - 01752 669853.
Just spoke with Ken. Very helpful chap. Think I will use him for any electroplating needs.
Good stuff 👍
