I have a 16v JTD and I have been told that if the worse ever happens and the cam belt breaks there is enough piston clearence & will miss the valves - now the 8 valve is a different story and will hit the valves if the piston come into contact.
Mine broke at 52k (now 70K) I didn't own it then the work was completed inc new water pump however I do not intend to run the belt/pump beyond 88k (every 36k) maybe I am being paranoid.

Anyone got the answer

I belive when the pistons hit the valves and push them up they break the rockers..... i'd still not like the thought of my pistons kissing and smooching with my valves!! i'd change the belt every 36k to try keep them apart ;)
