I will be driving this in the spider in the not too distant future. Has anybody experienced, what is supposed to be a fantastic drive complemented by great scenery?

I drove it a couple of years back and it's all that you say. However, it's one of the few passes where they charge a toll and it's quite expensive: €35 for a day ticket.

Yeah, I've spoken to similar people like yourself on a different forum, they agree that it is a great drive but as you say...pricey. Did you drive up to the top platform? that, I belive has quite a narrow road up to it, and the road in general is full of cars, motorcyclists & cyclists.
New discs, pads and fluid before going methinks.

I drove it some years ago and had no problems. I have to admit that,as a civil engineer, I was as impressed as much with the engineering as with the drive. We also put our boots on and walked up as far as the glacier since we, my wife and self, were there for the sight seeing really. The car, a Xsara VTS, simply flew up it. There again the cyclists weren't doing too badly either so I would have been amazed if it had struggled.

True but then there are other Alpine passes just as, or even more spectacular, which don't charge.

but, it could also help with keeping traffic down. seems to work here anyway.
