Google's "G-Board" is just a bloated PoS now.

Any one using a simple, clear touch keyboard?
No swiping or predictive text needed.

Hit me.

I can't say I find gboard too bloaty, I turned off all the swipe and other gumpf off in settings, and have a nice basic colour and layout.

Certainly less bloaty than the crap preloaded on my earlier htc and samsung phones anyway.

It's the emojis and "Stickers" (an idea they nicjed from LINE :tut:) that grips my ****.

It's in the same pop-up as settings so I accidentally press it and it comes up.
Haven't found a way to deactivate it.

Asus' ZenUI keyboard is nice, but they've
restricted it to their own phones now.

I can't say I've had issues with the stickers, but I do use emojis.

Have you tried any sites like apkmirror? often you can sideload other apps that may be restricted to proprietary brands - I used to run HTC's music player on my Samsung as I preferred it more.

Here you go... https://www.apkmirror.com/?post_type=app_release&searchtype=apk&s=asus+keyboard

That's the beauty of android over iOS

That seems to have worked.

Yay! Why didn't I think of that?

Will run it over this week and if no issues I will boot GBoard into touch.

Ah yeah, And the spell checker works better than GBoard Just underlining the word in red. Even with correction switched off. No need to waste screen area with a bar of word proposals.

WooHoo!

Swiftkey apknite is a good one, it can even suggest a phrase, idiom, ... predict emoji...
Recently I have known Grammarly, the interface is quite same as Gboard but it has grammar check function that is really helpful for people who are learning English
