An afternoon and few beers later...

I've been buying hoarding detailing products for the last couple of months and finally got around to using them all. Went through 15 microfibre towels

- Washed the car with Autoglym Shampoo and a wool wash mitt twice
- Rinsed with warm water
- Clayed the car with a Mer clay kit
- Applied a coat of Autoglym SRP, then buffed off
- Applied a coat of Autoglym EGP, then buffed off, applied again, buffed off again.
- Used Autoglym glass polish inside and out
- Used a soft microfibre alloy wheel cleaner, then SRP on the teles, with a coat of Autoglym wax
- Used Gliptone leather cleaner and conditioner (smells amazing)

Wasn't sure whether to put a coat of wax underneath the EGP, but EGP has waxes in anyway

So, the result:

Front
Back
Buffed to perfection - If only the paint was still perfect

Just such a shame there's still lots of swirls and stone chips from the previous owner. Almost tempted into a respray, but at 77k there's an entire debate there.

Nice action

I shall give it the official inspection on Friday!
I think you should consider getting one SIF...
what an absolutely beautiful car
Thanks mate :)

Construction company is building 40 new houses about 300 yards away, she doesn't stay clean for long with all that dust flying about. Appreciate it while I can

I believe SIF is already on the lookout :D

Trust me, it will be filthy by then :(
Absolutely stunning - love that colour on a GTV!

If you've not noticed, the inside edge of the left rear tyre is completely bald.
Next investment is a Meguiars G220 dual-action polisher, some Poorboys SSR2 polish and Black Hole glaze. There's the swirls sorted.

well spotted
 I wondered how long it would take - you've got a keen eye. The camber is off as a couple of the Powerflex suspension bushes at the rear need doing again. (The entire rear was done in 2006) I'm having her over at Rusper to have them fitted next month with 4 new Bridgestone Potenzas. The inside edge of the right rear is pretty poor as is the inside egde of the o/s front left. Gently gently with the loud pedal for now
wow that's shiny
i think you can wax ontop of egp but not put egp ontop of wax.

Correct;)
What a beaut.
Phwoar:wow:

Stunning
Nice piece of work :)
Thanks :D Nice to hear people appreciating it - the neighbours think I'm mad

Thanks for the tip. Why does it have to be this way round?

I understand EGP is there to 'seal in' the SRP, but wax claims to do the same, and AFAIK, EGP contains wax. Does EGP eat into the wax layer?

AFAIK its the solvents in the EGP that remove some or all of the wax layer thus the best way round for durability (and looks IMO) is sealant then wax:thumbs:

I've looked at Wheelworks, been looking at Lepsons too. It's a job to get round to :)

In regards to the dual-action polisher - i DO NOT trust myself with one of those  I will break something
No you really won't. If you use a Dual Action (as opposed to Rotary) polisher, with a normal polishing pad and a mild polish like Poorboys SSR2 then it is practically impossible to mark the paint.

SSR2 is about 2/3 the cutting strength of T-Cut.. but they do an SSR1 too which is even milder if you don't trust yourself. SSR1 is more or less Autoglym Super Resin Polish in terms of its "bite"... very gentle.

The G220 also has variable speeds... 1 (which is like "mental hand polishing" speed) up to 6 which your missus might enjoy.. ;) If you start slow.. polish away for a few minutes, then stop and have a look, you'll see that the paint will take a faster speed. The more you polish the more the polish breaks down (gets finer) so the longer you work it, the finer finish you're getting.

It's hard work to shift swirls just with SSR1 .. which is why I suggest starting with 2... but that doesn't mean SSR2 is a demon. It's just a bit quicker. You can use SSR1 on the top to get the last bit of depth in the paint.

At least try to borrow one and try it out on the vaccum cleaner or something.. just to see how it works. You'll be impressed really.
