Hi guys, My 155 is getting ready for it's Mot test
(get the credit card ready!) and i was wondering if anyone could recommend a decent Alfa specialist as i'm keen to have the car cared for by someone in the know without main dealer charges!!!

Preferably in the Nottingham/Derby/South yorkshire area!!!

I also need to get my front spoiler repainted, and probably both wings and bonnet ( damn those stone chips )...Any decent body repair chaps used here??

Hi Craig

You could try Trofeo Garage run by Nigel Cottee - 0115 920 4211

unit 7
churchfiled court
bewcastle road
top valley
nottingham
ng5 9pj

Its the only one I can find in the AROC directory but am sure there are others....just cant remember who/where.

I cant personally recommend him (I use someone in Chesterfield) but a m80 of mine used him a fair bit.

Aaah, another candidate for a Derbyshire meet :)

I use a place called Autoselect. Its on the A61(?) Derby Road, Stretton near chesterfield. They are not a "specialist" but like Italian (and German!!! :() cars and run a professional operation and give discounts to club members. Some of the local section members use them too. They also do MOT's and valeting.

Tell 'em Steve with the V6 told you wink , mine's in there as I type so my wallet will be a lot lighter soon :(

How are ya mate? It's been a month since my 155 ran... I've been and picked it up today, cost me £600 in total, but now it's all done :) I don't think Trofeo is there anymore, I heard he drives a van for somebody. I'm gonna send Craig another message on where to go.
Speak to ya soon

Hi Craig
I can help you out with both your queries mate... I've just had a complete top end rebuild as I changed my own cambelt and it went **** up, bending all my inlet valves, as I didn't understand how the inlet variator worked. So, I took the head off and sent that off for new valves etc., collected all my new parts-variator, pulleys, head bolts etc., and like you, I struggled to find anybody who would touch an Alfa at a reasonable price. Wrinx has recommended Trofeo, but they aren't there anymore unfortunately. I know because I've been chasing him, but I have good news - I found a place in Heanor, just outside Ilkeston called Terry Mulligans, who know their stuff. He didn't hesitate to take the job on. We towed it in with a boot full of bits, including my head, and a couple of days later I drove it out, running as sweet as a nut. My old variator had become very noisy, I didn't realise how noisy until I collected my car. He only charged me £170 labour, I'd been quoted between £300-£1500 for the same job. Terry has got all the cam locks and special tools to do the work, and he was very helpful. His own car is a Lancia, so your on the right track straight away. This message comes with high recommendation, his telephone number is - 01773 712244(ask for Terry junior, and tell him Dave Leach-with blue 155 told you to ring).
I have another contact for your paint. He does work for Sytner and Mercedes etc. His work is excellent and very reasonably priced. He paints all my friends/family cars and has done for years. He has a unit in Colwick Industrial Estate, Nottingham. His own car is a Lancia Integrale Dealership (only 200 made, I think).Give him a ring, you wont be disappointed, his telephone number is 0115 9872201 (ask for Rich and again, tell him Dave Leach gave you his number).
If you need to visit either places, get back to me and Ill give you directions from your end.
Good luck mate, let me know how ya get on.

THAT ALFA BREAKERS AT HEANER YOU JUST SPOKE ABOUT ARE FREINDS OF TERRY MULLIGANS. I PHONED THAT YARD ( SALVOS GROUP) TO SEE IF THEY KNOW OF ANY BODY AND IT WAS THEM THAT RECAMENDED TERRYS PLACE. SO WHEN I TOWED MY CAR IN I POPPED INTO SALVOS YARD JUST TO SAY HELLO. THEY ALL OK UP THER ,DOWN TO EARTH FOLK LIKE US.ANWAY SALVOS HAVE GOT 2 155S BREAKIN, BOTH EARLY BODYS BUT STLL GOT INTERIORS IN. NO ENGINES OR WHEELS THOUGH,UNLESS THEY TOOK EM OFF4 SECURITY REASONS.
TERRY MULLIGAN DOES ALL THE SPANNER WORK FOR SALVOS YARD ASWELL.
REAL PEOPLE,REAL PRICES
WELL AS YOU KNOW MY JOB CAME TO £600 ODD,BUT ALFA DEALER WANTED BETWEEN £1500 AND £2000.
£950 LABOUR IN THERE SOMWERE.
THE ONLY DIFFERANCE BEING I TOOK MY HEAD OFF MYSELF AND SENT IT AWAY MYSELF BUT ALFA WOULD HAVE DONE ALL THAT FOR THERE MONEY..STILL ALOT OF DIFFERANCE DONT YOU THINK.JUST BIN TO WORK IN ALFA,ENJOYED EVERY INCH,ITS BIN A MONTH ..LONG TIME.
IM SENDING MY WHEELS OFF NEXT WEEK 4 BLASTING AND PAINTING OR ENAMILING .
WEEK AFTER IM GUNNA FLAT THE ENTIRE CAR DOWN THEN ITS GOING TO RICH WHITE AUTOS FOR A FULL HIT...**** IT .ITLL BE LIKE BRAND NEW.

Hiya DD

Sounds like you're spendin' lotsa money on your baby!!! It'll be worth it.

Might have to consider a re-sray for the V6. The red paint has faded in places, it went for a machine polish yesterday, they did half the boot and said it made no difference so didnt finish the job :(

Apart from that......I LOVE it, went to see Henry last night and had a bit of a play on the way back, down a dual carriageway. Got to a seriously license threatening speed, it still had more to go and felt solid :D :D :D :D

Have Salvogroup got a leather interior in the the 155's theyre breaking?

Hi Wrinx
Glad ya V6 is running well. I didnt see any leather interior at Salvos, but they could have some stashed as they obviously get through a lot of Alfas-give em a ring.
Why doesnt this site email me when someones answered your posting, it used to... does it let you lot know???
Come on then... what was the licence threatening speed??? If ya dont want to admit it publically send me a private message! :D We run old hotrods, dont try and link the Italian cars to old american/british hot rods, because there isnt one!
Anyway, couple of years ago we ran a 1955 Chevy Belair saloon car, which ran a 454 (about 8 litre) V8 - it was said to have 570bhp. We had that rolling one night up to about 150mph-made the A52 seem like a country lane! At this point you need to choose whether to believe me or not, I would understand if you didnt as this is really moving, but I have 2 witnesses - one was sat next to me with a massive hole in his pants, but still smiling, the other was in the TVR behind me wink So dont be shy, lets have it.....how fast is fast??
If your interested in a paint job-wait til ours is done and come and have a look, or contact my mate Rich if ya cant wait that long-just tell him I gave you his number.
Later mate
Dangerous Dave :) wink :D

Hi Wrinx
Nice one mate.......
I took my 2litre up to 110mph before all my problems. Although it was happy, I knew it hadn't got loads left, probably 10-15mph. I think the book said they are good for 130mph, V6 has got to be stronger at these speeds.
The Chevy fly by I told ya about was a one off, you couldn't doit very often - too much fresh underwear required!!!!!!!!! :D The Alfas both 2 litre and V6 are excellent motorway cars, and they love the smaller roads too, not all cars can say this! Have you seen my recommendation post? You've got to do ya bit haven't ya....
I've seen ya car piki on Derby meet. I can't remember the last time I saw 3 155s together! eek! I don't know whether to enamel my wheels or blast and then paint the centres and polish the edge, which is how it looks at the moment, but they are in quite bad condition.
Do you know anybody whos had their wheels enamelled? I've been quoted a really good price to enamel them through a mate of mine. Would like some alloys in the future, but gonna have to wait a bit til I've got some more funds together!!! By the time funds are back, you might be ready to change your wheels (I know you just have) so I could buy these! :D

Hugh
If ya still out there mate, thanks again for all your help. If you've been reading this you'll realise my cars now up and running, boy did I miss it!!! :)

Later
Dangerous Dave
PS How do ya put a piki on ya post??

Hi Dave

You have to upload a piccy to your own webspace then go into your profile and type a link to the webpace inot your "signature" tht appears after a post.

The URL must have
after,
eg.

Put the http:// bit in too.

that should work, also for posting piccies in here :) but keep em small <50kb I think is the figure otherwise it slows us all down :)
