I did try looking throught the thread on garage recommendations in this forum, but it is very time consuming and might not be current - hence this enquiry. I have found a nice little 147 2.0 litre Selespeed that I am interested in, and would like to get it inspected by a garage/workshop that either knows or specialises in Alfas. They should be somewhere in the area bounded by Bedford/Milton Keynes/Luton. Any suggestions welcome .

Hi Stelvio

Autolusso would be your best bet, they know their Alfas and their servicing and upgrade work is very well regarded

just google autolusso

Thanks for your suggestion. I have used Autolusso (they serviced my 156 GTA for me earlier this year ), but since Bedford is full of Italians and Alfas, I had hoped that I could find a suitable firm in either Bedford or that immediate area. I shall, though, be quite happy to use Autolusso if I can't find another firm in the required area.

If your near Luton, this will be no good, but less than half an hours drive from Bedford or MK is Northants Alfa at Wellingborough. I have no personal knowledge of their work, but I believe they have a very good reputation on here.

I don't live anywhere near the area in question, which is why I don't know any suitable firm there. The 147 I hope to buy is owned by a woman who lives near Oundle, though, and she does not mind me having a garage check it over but doesn't want it to travel a long way for it. Thanks for your help with this one, guys.

Funnily enough, the woman in question is married to a guy who owns an Aston Martin sales and restoration business in that area. I need to put my Aston into storage over the winter since I am running out of garage space and he has a good storage facility, so I am killing two birds with one stone !...........................although I might not find her to be quite so friendly if I don't buy her 147 !!!

Stelvio being the most informed chap that you are, I'm sure you will arrive at the correct decision, especially as you are back once more with AO. Nice to see you old chap.:): Any pictures of that superb Newport Pagnell machine that you have?

I don't wish to seem rude, amigo, but beyond this message I shall refrain from answering any posts NOT addressed to Stelvio. In addition to that, posting a picture of my Astons on this forum has been a subject well aired in the recent past. Two main problems apply here :-

1. Is that I don't know how to obscure the registration number on any of the numerous photos I have ( I have been told that this is a sensible measure ). I suppose that I could always tape over the plate and take fresh pics, but I would rather discover how to submit pictures to a forum (see note 2 below)or else I'll have to tape over ALL of my cars plates and take more pictures !!

2. Is that I don't know a soul ( at least anyone that I wouldn't be embarrassed to ask ! )who knows how to submit a picture to a forum. I know that other members have made helpful suggestions on this subject, but, regrettably, NONE of the suggestions ( the polite ones anyway ! ) have worked.

If I can overcome the above difficulties, I would be quite happy to submit pictures of ALL of mys Astons, and other exotica such as the "C" Type Jaguar that I obtained recently.

Cheers,
STELVIO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
p.s. I have only "returned" to this forum for when I have a genuine reason for doing so. I always did enjoy the posts that I previously submitted by way of a touch of humour, and so did many other members if the response was any guide, but, unfortunately, the killjoys in life are always a minority that make the most raucous noise, so that spoiled it for me...........and others, too, I am sure.

Sincere apologies, Zulu Ferret, I was mistaken in thinking that you did not use the name Stelvio. In mitigation I can only plead that I have been very poorly lately ( a near nervous breakdown as a result of taking anti-cholesterol medication ), and I am still feeling a tad "ungrounded".

I hope you are able to sort things out favourably Amigo! Do keep us updated on your situation and progress Chap.:):

Many thanks, my friend, things have been a tad fraught of late. I am negotiating to buy a 350 year old thatched farmhouse and outbuildings, and have just discovered that the Grade 2 listing applies to even the bloody outbuildings, one of which is a thatched barn presently used as a large garage, but that has open sides and no doors to it ! I wish to make the building fully enclosed in order to provide secure garaging for my cars, but now know that I have to deal with the "English Heritage" bunch instead of the local Council. The search for a nice 147 for "'er Indoors" hasn't helped much either ( there are SO many old nails out there ! **), but have now found a couple worth investigating further.

** She MUST have a 147 that is red and a Selespeed, so that limits the choice a bit !

I can empathise with any adverse side effects you have endured taking anti-cholesterol medication. I had to cease taking Simvistatin as it did not agree with me one little bit. Best of health to you Stelvio.:):

GT. Tom if Stelvio re-visits us regularly, we can be sure of some good interesting posted correspondence, that's pretty much guaranteed.:): He has been missed, very much so. So has Jon the Luddite.:(: Another first rate poster, poet as well. :):

Defo recommend autolusso. I have used them for a few things. They also do a free health check on Saturday mornings which is very useful!
