Hi

I have an Alfa romeo Gtv 3.0l and the bonnet catch is not opening when i pull on the release handle.

I have tried reaching undermeath to pull the actuall wire but this simply won't work.

Is there anyother emergency release or does anyone know how elese to get at the catch.

The car has been on the ramp and it looks like the radiator etc will have to come out to get at it.

Help would be appreciated as i have no screen wash and the radiator is overheating as there is no water in it!!

First of all you are pulling the Bonnet Release handle and not the Steering Wheel adjustment lever aren't you ? Sorry to appear condescending but this has come up before !!

Assuming that you are take a look at the Links below, they may help you.

P.S. I really don't like the comment about no water in the Radiator, what happened ???

I've had success on a customers car by repeatedly pulling the handle back while someone (Ned) 'bounced' the bonnet up and down on each corner until it popped up.

Incidentally when I got my GTV the bonnet was a bugger to open and I added some washers to the end of the cable to take up the slack, seems to have done the trick.

All the best

I had this issue too, but it was because I had left something on the front of the bonnet ledge, and then shut the bonnet...

I guess I was lucky, as I managed to lift the bonnet up enough to get a large screwdriver in, which i then used to swipe the cam and release the bonnet. If you try this, you might also have someone pull the release lever at the same time....

This is what I would do.

Have a look under the bonnet once it is open at the points that the pins locate in. There should be a bit of curved wire going across the holes.

get somene to pull the release lever so that you can check that when it is pulled the wire moves completely out of the way of the holes.

If not the cable has stretched.

If they do move out of the way, you will need to adjust the pins under the bonnet. If you loosen them off you can move them from side to side. It may be that for some reason the bonnet or the catch has moved slightly, and the edge of the pin is catching inside the edge of the hole instead of allowing the bonnet to come up.

I had loads of fun with this on my car.

I had this problem on two of my cars, get someone to sit in the car and pull on the bonnet release then while they are pulling the cable you push and pull on the bonnet hopefully it will pop up, A little tip when you are making any ajustments before you shut the bonnet take the front grille out (3 little bolts) then if you shut the bonnet and it doesn't open you can reach in through where the grille was and simply pull the cable you can also just about see where any adjustment is needed (it has worked twice for me now)!:)
