Hi

I have recently bought a Alfa Romeo GT, but I seem to have a weird problem where the MIL comes on whilst driving at RPMs of 3000-3500. However if you increase vehicle speed so the rev range is above or below 3000-3500 the light goes off.

I have a Autel Diagnostic and that has come up with no stored codes. I have also downloaded the fiatecuscan software but I am waiting for my friend to return the elm327 module before I can test it.

Anyone else have a similar problem? Have you managed to fix it? I will update everyone as to what the codes are, if any are stored!

The Autel Diagnostic does talk to the ecu as i can read all the information such as o2 monitor etc. But there is no codes stored on it. I have seen the fiatecuscan software and there are more modules on the car where the code can be stored.

But was just curious to see if anyone else had experienced this problem before?

I know there is one engine ecu, but there may be codes on the body, dashboard etc. But the Autel Diagnostic only reads the the engine ecu.

I guess thats my question really, if anyone else as experienced this before? I have diagnosed cars before where codes are stored on other modules without it turning the MIL light on.

The weird thing with this fault is that it appears to cause no problems in the way it drives/handles. And the light goes out when you come out of that rev range.

I might take it for a drive with the Autel device plugged in to see is it registers anything.

My educated guess would be throttle or manifold pressure sensor related issues. But as I said before just curious to see if anyone else had this type of fault.

I have gone for drive whilst monitoring the live values.

It appears I get an open loop fail on fuel system 1 and fuel system 2 under the conditions mentioned in my first post.

After a bit of research it appears this can be caused by faulty o2 sensors. But curious to know what sort of values should I be expecting from the sensors, how many sensors are there in total? 1 pre cat, 1 post cat?

I have attached the full log taken by the reader along with a quick snapshot of the fail log:

Any help/ideas?

- two sensors pre-cat, one sensor post-cat
- bank 1 O2S11 sensor 1, O2B1S2 sensor 2, cylinder 1,4
- bank 2 O2S21 sensor 1, cylinder 3,2.
- with this parametr LONGFT1(%) 10.2, LONGFT2(%) 10.9 faulty is sensor 1 in bank 1 and sensor 1 in bank 2.
- usually it is almost impossible.
- look also for this parametr.

- usually the temperature at V = 100km/h is faulty thermostat.

I just replaced the spark plugs on my 2.0 JTS after the same warning light and it now runs smoothly and is no longer lumpy at idle.

are you reading error codes as they occur between 3000 & 3500?

I'd guess spark plugs, injectors or low compression

BTW FES will connect to the engine abs & airbag ecu using a KKL interface, mine does any ways

motor system failure

Hi new to the site
Have been told from italian specialist that the main cause off the this motor system failure is the crank sensor or coil packs.
Cranks sensor can break down from when hot this is sometimes overlooked hope this can help jts owners
