hey i really need some help

the carburators on my 33 are unbalanced can anyone help me with balancing ? or any tips or even where to start? im sucka newbie on 33's as this is my first ever.

the 33 idles real rough atm and need to drive it to work

thanks guys any info will be a big help

Our sud idled roughly as one of the idle jets was blocked. Checking all the jets are clear might be a good place to start. Linkage adjustment also needs to be good.
Other people will know more I'm sure.

But seriously: Very hard to do without a decent adjustment tool. You don't need the big floats and all that big garage stuff as it's not realistic to buy and keep around but there are cheaper hand held adjustment tools available (mercury filled I believe) which should serve you well. Do a search on Google.

I agree, you need to be a legend to set up the carbs yourself. Once you make sure all cylinders are working (by running the engine with each spark plug lead disconnected in turn), take it to a specialist with the right tools (synchrometer? vacuum gauges? spellbook and magic wand?).

My carbs were all over the place too. Once you've checked for blocked jets (I found two that weren't helping), set all of the air bypass screws the same number of turns out from fully home (I think it was 1.5 turns) - mine had been "fiddled with" and the idle was all over the place.

The final piece of the puzzle was setting up the balance bar between the carbs. I tried my own way first and failed miserably. Then I set it up "by the book" with the recommended clearance between the throttle lever and the bar (1mm I seem to recall) and that was it. Once I'd established that the 8° advance timing mark wasn't scribed on my flywheel (my timing was out as a result), the engine ran very well indeed and idles very evenly.

Admittedly my mixture control jets are tamperproofed and are still set to factory specs, but that should be the case with your 33 as well. If it isn't then I'm afraid you will probably need the services of an expert...

I'll do pretty much any work on my 33 and I set up the twin carbs on my BMW motorcycle using vacuum gauges so that it runs nicely, however when it comes to the twin-choke twin carbs on the 33 I get them done at MDZ near Gatwick on an annual basis.

Having said that do have a good look at the jets etc. and if you have a compressor use some air to blow out the orifices, (wear goggles as if the petrol sprays out into your eyes it stings, I speak from experience!).

Ive set up the carbs on mine a few times and unless you have a colortune or something similar it really is a nightmare. As spacenut said, set everything the same so that it'll actually run and go from there. With the Dellorto carbs, as far as i know, the only adjustment is on the idle mixture and then the airflow. If you have a good ear you can set it to idle smoothy then reconnect the linkage between the carbs and adjust accordingly. I really cant recommend the colortune enough. €30 but It makes life much easier. On my 1.3 ive got excellent pickup from idle smooth tickover and passed emissions tests without ever getting them professionally tuned.

i would check plugs,distributor,leads first before the carbs, in my experience it,s normally something simple ie plug off,cracked distributor ,arching from a lead .might be a good idea having a look with with engine running when it,s dark just to check hope this helps
