What do think of the prices? is it worth it? Supposed to be going to order one tomorrow 135bhp veloce but a bit unsure.

'Alfa Romeo Mitos equipped with Fiat’s innovative new Multiair engine will cost from £15,165 when they reach UK showrooms in the spring.

The base 135bhp 1.4-litre turbocharged unit will be the entry-level Multiair model, with the range-topper being the 170bhp version of the same engine. It will carry the Cloverleaf badge and cost £17,895.

The 118bhp 1.4-litre turbocharged non-Multiair Mito costs from £12,745.

The 135bhp version will be available in either Lusso or the more luxurious Veloce trim. Extra equipment on the Cloverleaf model includes unique 17-inch alloys, a darkened headlining, a revised steering wheel design, new wing mirrors and special Cloverleaf badging.

Other models set to benefit from Fiat’s Multiair technology include the Fiat Punto Evo and an as-yet-unspecified Chrysler model.

Multiair not only eliminates the throttle butterfly but has a completely new take on how a camshaft actuates the intake valves, as well as the tech to subtly vary the timing of the valve openings.

It increases power and torque by 10 per cent over an equivalent non-Multiair engine, while also decreasing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by the same amount

The Alfa Romeo Mito Multiair is available to order now.'

I just spoke to my dealer today and was a little dismayed at the cost for the cloverleaf. Sounds like a lot to charge over last year's 155 cost to me, a good 1K over what I would have expected.

Its 1.35k more than a 155 Veloce, a 155 Lusso is 1k less than a Veloce, what made you think a 170 QV was going to be cheap? Its more powerful, it's economy is on par with the 120bhp Mito, its also in a lower tax bracket than a 120bhp Mito so will likely cost you less to own in the long run than a 155.

It also has active suspension, that the other models do not have.

Doesn't sound bad to me.

I see what you mean, and I'd forgotten revised suspension, but more power should not necessarily mean more money, if it did, all modern cars would be insanely expensive.

Thats a strange statement. I would expect the 170 cloverleaf to be more than the 155 in the same way that the 155 is more than the 120 and the 120 more than the 95. simples!

I mean it's just progress. I'd agree if I expected all those models to co-exist in the medium term, .but my bet is the 120 an 155 will disappear very soon. No one would have that many variants of the 1.4, it makes no sense, they'll just be competing with each other.
By this that they'd have a another 190HP model before you get to a GTA.

I must admit, I hadn't realised just how expensive the 155 is now, I had a quote for one when they 1st came out and I seem to remember 16 ish with leather.

If the GTA does come out, it now looks like it'll be comfortably over 20K.

there are now 50 insurance groups instead of 20, insurance companies say its to make things easier! my 95 bhp lusso was in the 'old' group 5, don't know which group it's in now.

i really don't see how changing insurance groups to a max of 50 is going to make it "easier" in any way. In my opinion, it's just being pedantic, as you can't accurately predict how many claims will be made with a particular car just based on the insurance group statistics (it gives a good estimate, but increasing the spectrum of possible groups probably won't do anything for this)
However, I fear the main reason for increasing the number of insurance groups is so they can make more money.
