Hi
Anybody out there had the same problem, my Alfa GT 1.9JTDM 2006, cut out whilst driving, a message on the display gave a water high temperature alarm & within 10 seconds the car cut out.
I called the brakedown service who picked up the car & returned it home, the guy said when the car cools down it should restart & to have the cooling system checked.
I checked the cooling I could only add half a litre, no obvious leaks but the car won't start, it turns over OK no faults are showing on the display, any help would be appreciated.

Hi
The sensor checks OK, but checked the water pump & found the drive bearing & or sleeve worn, this has allowed the timing belt to move causing damage to the belt, however it's still intact & tensioned, I don't think the timing has slipped.

Looking online I think to check the timing requires two special tools one to hold the crankshaft & a calibrated srew to locate the camshaft, if anyone knows a quick check please let me know.

The pump would answer why it overheated, but not why it cut out and refuses to start unless the timing has slipped, so it looks like this is going to take a while to sort,,,,watch this space.

Hi all
On further inspection the timing had slipped, I removed the top of the engine & found all eight exhaust rockers knackered, I struggled with my local Alfa dealer to locate the correct rockers, the parts supplied had 5mm clearance & would not locate on the valves which on my engine were 6mm, they insisted there had been no engine modifications in the year my car was built, obviously there had been a change, I found another Alfa supplier (Alfa Specialists) who were aware of the change & supplied the correct rockers, so new rockers, water pump & timing belt kit fitted I'm back up & running.
