Hi,

My GT (2.0 JTS) has been bit problematic this winter. Heater is not working, had it checked at local workshop, they found that Fuse F31 was blown but at that point the fuse didn't blow again, so they were unable to find the reason for it. I paid 80 € for fuse change, so at this point I'm not keen to take it back there, afraid the result is the same, trying to find the reason for it first.

In a warm garage it works fine as long as I've tested it but when I drive it out, after random time it blows the fuse. At some point it lasted even 10 mins, the 2 mins, then it blew it right away after turning the key. If it doesn't blow right away, haven't been able to find what event triggers it. It seems either cold (Finnish cold, its been around -20 C for past month), gear change or tremble from driving blows the fuse, or something else. I've been excluding various reasons for this, it is able to blow the fuse even when the heater motor, seat heaters, cigarette lighter and various other parts has been disconnected. In a other tread quite similar problem was due to moisture in body computer, so I opened it also but found no reason/problem inside.

Probably there is a faulty wire somewhere connecting randomly to the ground, unless someone has a better suggestion? Any suggestions where to search for the short circuit?

F31 is only a low amp fuse by looks of it and controls the climate control panel and relay coil. I would start by checking the wiring to relay and control panel make sure nothing is damaged.
Worth trying to replace the relay and see how it goes then.

One of the things also powered by this fuse is the small fan/sensor to measure the inside cabin temperature....Mounted behind the grid on the temp.control panel. Perhaps this has seized, or has some other problem ?

Can't find anywhere, which relay is it?

This problem still persists. 2nd car and have not been using it much this summer and surviving without heater but winter is coming...

according to Autogenius fuse is behind "climate control system" and "heater unit relay coils". Fuse burns even when the climate control panel and inside temperature sensor has been removed, so my suspicion is towards "heater unit relay coils", but I can't find the location or function for these from internet nor from Alfa GT workshop manual CD. Recommendations?

You need to check the heater blower fan wiring and the heater resistor pack which is mounted to the heater blower casing. Depends if your car is a left-hand drive or right-hand drive as to which side it is mounted.

There is a chance the fuse is too small. Someone might have replaced it in the past with what was available in their toolbox at the time. Just worth checking the manual.

Thanks for the advice. Disconnected the heater blower and the resistor pack, wiring seems ok but fuse still keeps blowing. Need to start rigorous wiring checking... :disappointed:

Update: there was a short circuit in the fuse box under the hood. Found it when the fuse burnt when closing the hood.
