Have digested all the wisdom in previous posts about water in the boot but no joy. I have clear taped over the entire length of the roof seals and the rear light clusters and siliconed the hinge brackets -the wetness remains mainly on the carpet around the rim of the wheel arch. My question now to wiser heads than mine is: are there body seals under the rear wheel arches? Thanks.

I don't have a GT but saw a video on YouTube recently of a Russian guy removing the rear bumper.
I was actually looking for info about top edge side attachment on a 147, which turned out to be be different, via the wheel arch like the front. The GT upper edge fastenings are inside the boot, behind the side trim panels. His boot is rusty and I thought at the time that seam was likely to leak and admit water into the boot. Take a look at the video, see what you think.

Could be some mounts for bumper. Does your car have a sunroof. Perhaps it is leaking and water is travelling backwards. If the car has had accident damage in the rear there could be some sealant which was not re-fitted in the correct places after the repair.

Thanks for the advice Halftone and Mikesalfa. The video was very useful, I am not aware of rear bumper damage and it looks likely that the bumper might have to come off. I am still very curious to know if there are body seals under the rear wheel arch covers. Any pointers to a body shell drawing would be helpful.

Oldbiker did you solved this issue ?
Sorry about delay. Still a mystery. Now planning to strip out all the plastic side trim in the boot but even this is challenging. Removed all visible screws and the bloody things immovable. Looking for Utube vids but nothing found yet.
Have stripped all the clear plastic of the roof and the rear lights. And so it goes on and on.........................

GT and 156 boot leaks being discussed on FB Alfabook... sealant under the boot hinges allegedly required, though one or two say sealing the gutter before installing the rubber seal.

Perhaps a glimmer of light and sanity. Lay full length in the boot with the rear seats flat and wifey holding a hose onto the roof and boot. Had previously partially removed the right hand side storage box and the plastic cover over the back valance to expose the body shell. Hey presto!!! a water leak from the rubber boot seal from either side of the boot lock and another high up near the hinge but apparently from the rubber seal not the hinge. Tried tightening the compression on the seal by adjusting the boot lock keeper, that improved but did not cure the leak. Have now ordered a new rubber boot seal and will report back when it is fitted. Logically if the hinges are leak proof and the glass is totally sealed where else can water penetrate? Fingers crossed.

Hi GT Hans., fitted the new boot seal, needs some final adjustment but guess what the day after the booty was again flooded. I thought that I had effectively sealed the door hinges but that job will now be repeated. The men in white coats are knocking on the door.........
