“ A few days the first rumors began to circulate about a possible Alfa Romeo event scheduled for June 24th. During this event, to celebrate the 110 years of history of the Italian brand, there could be the debut of a new model, a project that can best represent the sports history of the brand (there was talk of a hybrid supercar) or the future of the brand (there has been talk of the new B-SUV already confirmed by the industrial plan of last October).

In these hours, rumors have multiplied and several sources agree on the secret project that Alfa Romeo may be working on. In the near future, according to the unconfirmed hypotheses of these hours, the Italian company could present the unpublished Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA, a real supercar, an even sportier and more extreme evolution of the Giulia Quadrifoglio, the car symbol of the last 5 years of Alfa Romeo and one of the most awarded models, internationally, since its public debut.”

The GTA could be a "pure supercar", without electrification but with a traditional polished petrol engine to maximize the car's performance level. The design of the new version of the Alfa Romeo Giulia will not be limited to an update of the engine. The engine power upgrade (which will require significant technical interventions, to be carried out with the support of Ferrari) will be accompanied by a drastic cut in the overall mass, up to even 100 kilograms (the Quadrifoglio weighs just over 1500 kilograms), new bumpers , new extractor, aerodynamic optimizations of various types and an enhanced braking system.”

Sounds good. The thought of an SUV release on the 110th anniversary would be an insult to the heritage of the marque and proof the true believers have lost. Let’s hope they do themselves proud. Wouldn’t a 2dr be nice? Too much to hope for?

[UPDATE] Contacted by Motor1.com, Alfa Romeo's Italian and French divisions have both denied the report, adding there are no such plans to introduce a more powerful Giulia in June.

Not in June or not a Giulia?
A Stelvio in May!

Alfa isn't Manley's priority plus the billion in losses incurred by Alfa last year makes this model's announcement unlikely

I have a problem being excited over a 620 bhp Giulia or Stelvio if just for the fun of it. The 510 bhp in the fairly heavy Stelvio mated to the ZF is more than can be asked for.

It would, however, be nice if Alfa took back the record for SUV:s on Alte Schleife. I don´t know if it would be feasibel for a Giulia to get overall record for a 4-d - but I think not. Perhaps they could use the Tesla running around the track as a pace car?
