We have just received another batch of dual mass flywheels.
Its not just the wear in the flywheel that need to be considered in whether a dual mass flywheel needs to be changed.
The grease in the dual mass can melt and become a liquid. When the vehicle is parked and cools down the liquid settles at the bottom of the flywheel and then becomes a solid. This will then cause the flywheel to be out of balance.

With respect your post seems to present a good argument to replace DMFs with ordinary ones when possible as melting grease would appear to be the inevitable result of the heat generated by a clutch which relies on friction (generating heat) to function.

I have a 916 V6 Spider and replaced the DMF with a GTA clutch and flywheel (solid) purely to avoid the problems that DMFs seem to generate.

I'm not a mechanical type of person and I don't claim to know much about DMFs. Why would you put a grease in there that you know melts at temperatures which can easily occur in a hard working clutch ? Seems nuts to me !
