I think it was €150 as part of an Alfa Ireland winter service promotion advertised online which was running at the time, very good value for a main dealer service.
Give them a call for a quotation
That is a good price, thanks. Will definitely give them a ring.

A big thanks to Don Baker in Meath. Polybushed the rear suspension and sorted the windows on my GTV. His body work guy tidied up a few scrapes and the car has never been better.
Nice to deal with someone who appreciates Alfa's

Hi dahaggis....I bought a second hand 159 of them 2 weeks ago...so far so good...but that means very little as I havent had anything done to the car...they fixed a window regulator all right...they do have a fairly decent reputation though.....I live not far away from them....I worked in ambrose Glass motors years ago and knew Tracta guys well, never heard anything bad....

I rang Dan Seaman Motors here in Cork yesterday to ask for a rough estimate on a timing belt job for our Giulietta 1.6. They were talking €750 quid plus VAT. Sounded steep to me. Maybe that's the going rate though?

Anyway, just thought I'd let ye all know that he said they've a lead time of 3 weeks in their workshop at the moment so they must be fairly busy.

For anyone looking to get Alfa keys repaired I can recommend (as have others over the years in the Tech Lounges) zaksystems on eBay https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/zaksystems

He repaired a key for my 147, be aware though depending on what key it is & what needs to be done to it, it may need to be recoded to your car after the repair.
If you've any questions regarding a repair contact him via eBay before purchasing, he's very helpful

Service at Grandon's in Cork

Hi all,

The Giulietta is going in for its 100,000km service in Grandon's tomorrow. I was quoted a "three or four week wait" for a service in Dan Seaman's so thought I'd give Grandon's a bell. They still have an Alfa tech on staff they said and still do warranty work etc and could service the car at a day and time that suited.

I'll let ye know how it goes!

Right, here's the report.

The car was dropped in at 11 and was completed at 3 (they take an hour for lunch at 1). Engine oil and filter was changed, brake fluid was changed, pollen filter was changed, and a general check of the underside of the car was done. Wheel tracking was done and new wiper blades fitted and they did something about the creak in the clutch pedal too.

It all came to €350. I don't know how that rates, is that good or bad? To be honest, the service seemed spot on, they phoned about everything, the receipt accounts for everything done and they sent a video of the health check being done too which was a nice touch. Unless someone tells me that that price was a rip off I think if book it in with them again for the next time.

The Sweep Garage

Hi all,

The Giulietta is coming up on its timing belt service. I remember reading about The Sweep here and it seemed to have a good reputation but I haven't heard any recent thoughts about it.

Are they worth giving a call as regards the Giulietta timing belt change? Our last service was with Grandon's in Glanmire (Cork) and we were happy with that but if The Sweep are still considered Alfa specialist then I wouldn't mind driving down to them.

Hi (haven't posted here in a while) but I've used Brian Powell Motor Services for 156 2.0 TS timing belts / 159 2.2 JTS Timing chain and a 159 1.9 JTDM Timing belt in the past.

He also looks after our German cars too (but don't tell anyone here :) ) ...I could not recommend them more!

Cheers Cathal

Grandons were removed from the list of authorised Alfa Service agents a couple of months ago, that means they can no longer do warranty work.
No reason not to continue using them for servicing etc if you are happy with them though.

Really? Wonder why that happened. Jaysus the pool of Alfa dealers is shrinking badly....

A guess would be that AR Ireland wanted too much for the franchise & Grandons couldn't justify keeping it considering the increasing average age & reduced number of newer Alfas on the road in the region.

A recommendation for a new to me tyre supplier, ordered tyres on a Friday, they arrived the following Thursday, a better range & cheaper for what I wanted than the usual suspects

Pneus Online

If anyone wants to use them send me a PM before ordering for a small first time order discount (I also get a small discount for future orders)

Another Thumbs up for Cashmans in Midelton.

Since Paul moved there from Lee Garage I've had the following done...... (16 year old Alfa - what the hey!)

New rear brake discs
New brake lines
Replacement front right hub
Timing belt
New rear section on the Exhaust ( Last week)
There was a service in there somewhere :jester:

The people in the service desk couldn't be better to deal with and Paul treats the car like his own.

Now all I need to do is find a good V6 166 to be bringing to them as well as the Gtv! :biglaugh:

Enjoy the Hols

Ned!
I cant find any Cashmans garage in Midelton. I call the only number I can find and there is no answer but the auto-attendent is for Johnson and Perrot?! Please tell me its not been taken over by those....guys?

I need someone to do a timing belt on a V6. Dan Seaman wouldnt even quote me for a timing belt on a V6. They dont service cars older than 2010 apparently. Good to know.

Edit: they just picked up and Cashmans midelton is no more apparently.

Try The Sweep in Kilmeaden. I gave them a call about the timing belt service on my Giulietta (1.6jtdm) and they sounded accommodating enough. Kilmeaden isn't too far from Cork.

They said a timing belt service would be around €600 on the Giulietta. Not sure if that includes oil and oil filter too though. Grandon's quoted me €1200 for timing belt, water pump, oil and oil filter. I nearly needed new trousers after hearing that.

I wouldn't expect a quote for a timing belt replacement to include an oil & filter change unlessss requested.
