Just wondering what everyones thoughts about the residuals for the 8C over the next 5 years or so?

The car becomes alot more interesting around the 60-70k mark as per Gallardo's but is the 8C likely to ever get to that level in the UK/Europe given it's limited numbers and exclusivity?

Interested to hear your views....

EDIT:

Just noticed this one at £104k (althought with an unforgiveable spelling of Alfa!!)

They'll reach a floor on the price similar to the SZ/RZs

Let's face it at £100K+ they only appeal to collectors and there are more interesting cars out there for the money.

No, there aren't :). If I had the money, it would be on top of my list. Maser GT would be 2nd.

In 10 yrs you'll have one for £500 if the economy continues its nose dive.:(
I wished, but don't think so. I'm looking for some nice V6 (75, GTV6, Gtv) for my fun car and they hold the value (which means are too expensive). Maybe 164s are quite cheap, but that's not what I'm looking for.

Interesting views

I think most people accept the 8C Coupe is a little dynamically flawed and they got it right on the Spider and this may affect values.

Personally can't see the 8C reaching SZ levels anytime soon given the SZ's controversial styling and modest engine no doubt resulted in the prices they have reached.

I see the 8C as a lot more exotic and can only wish they reach that sum in a few years.

Maybe I didn't explain clearly. I mean in percentage terms.

SZ/RZ £50k approx new, 20 yrs on £20-25K

8c £110K approx new, 20 yrs on £ 50-55K

It's possible.

My personal guess is that the 8C will follow the same path as the Ford GT. Most 8C Competizione's were sold around £130,000 including options. Ford GT's around £150,000 though they were in regular production as opposed to a limited run. Ford GT's bottomed at £100,000 and now you cannot find one for less that £150,000. The car in question at Clinkard's is unique given its relatively high mileage. I think they will appreciate again but in a few years time. I wouldn't compare the 8C to an SZ/RZ but others might.

I think the values will bottom out as this seems to happen on most exotic cars. For example, the Ferrari 348 has been around £25k for as long as I can remember (at least 5-6 years). Ferrari 328 probably bottomed out around £30k and will not depreciate from there, F355 around £35k for many years already. Same on Jag E-Type, Ferrari F40, Lamborghini Countach, etc. Some of these have actually gone up quite significantly. An F40 used to be £250k and now they seem to be more like £300k. A Countach 5000QV used to go as low as £50k but now you can't find one for less than £75k.

An 8C? I reckon in 5 years' time you'll be able to get one for £65k-70k and that's where it'll stay. A Gallardo will become a cheaper buy surely if you are looking for a that kind of car. Also the Audi R8 will probably depreciate and become affordable.

My guess is that the 8C will keep a bit more value then an old Ferrari or Lambo, these are always succeded by faster and better models (like 355-360-430-458), but the 8C is a limited edition and a one off.

Would it affect the values further if they did launch an 8C GTA ?

I'd be quite surprised if they dropped much more and probably not below £100k (odd example notwithstanding). Over the next few years I think they'll be fairly stable to slightly rising to the £120-£140k range with Spiders staying in the £160-£190k range.

They are very limited run models and they haven't really dipped all that much despite the economic woes over the last couple of years which suggests that some people see future classics as a potential safe haven/investment tactic.

In the mid term, if (when) the economy starts to recover, so will these values.

Taking the longer term view 15-20 years; I'd expect them to be approaching double their current value rather than halving.

IMHO! Free and worth not much!

Well in 10 years time we will all be driving hybrid cars and China will have cornered the market in Petrol. The result will be that Petrol will be £20 a Gallon and we will all be saying "I remember the good old days when you could get a Gallon for less than 10% of what it costs today" ..... Petrol engined cars will become ornamental pieces like Steam Trains and we will all be complaining about the price of electricity to run our cars and marvel at the sound those combustion engines make on the rare occasion that some rich sod (Old Fart) takes one for a Sunday drive.

So! 20 yrs and as a thing of beauty the 8C will sell as an ornament for £20m sorry we will be working with the Renminbi by then so the equiv in that currency and the Lambo Gaylords will be changing hand for a couple a hundred £ or the equiv Renminbi by then.

.......IMO.;)

Values aside, I recently had a very long, close look at an 8C Spider in the local Alfa showroom, and it came across to me as one of those very rare cars which represent (and are worth) more than merely the sum of its parts. The styling doesn't shout "Look at Me"... It simply draws you in to the point where you find it hard to turn your back and walk away.
