:rant:I posted a question recently about a car which was running well when parked but refused to run above about 1100 revs (with no horses) when I tried to restart it. Helpful members all suggested EGR or MAF problems: not so.....turned out to be throttle jammed up with carbon. Presumably this is a 'fly by wire' device so maybe Alfa, unable to 'afford' a short length of Bowden cable, had an eye on more cost to unfortunate owners and bigger profits for their main dealers! Alfa should consider their customers if they wish to stay in business......maybe they also need a few lessons from the engineers at FIAT? They should remember that disgruntled ripped off customers won't buy another Alfa unless there is reliability and sensible prices for spare parts, or you are lucky enough to have a non-franchise specialist nearby.:vomit:

A diesel doesn't have a throttle, at least in the classic sense. I can only assume you're talking about a cut-off butterfly valve which prevents run-on and runaway. These are susceptible to carbon build-up in all diesel engines, not just Alfas. If you've discovered a way to make this device operate other than by 'fly by wire' I'm sure the manufacturers will beat a path to your door. Good luck.

Oddest rant ever. Sorry you're having problems but I'm afraid to say it's a bit uninformed. Good luck with your car though

Well, I'm obviously not a fellow expert so probably a 'bit uninformed' but please refer to http//wwww.alfaworkshop.co.uk/jtd_engine.shtml then read down to point No.5.......if it's a good enough description by an expert then it'll do me fine!

Coming back to your 'fly by wire' rant, how do you propose this valve should operate? Telekinesis?

That's a bit unfair :(......... though I was thinking if he didn't have a bonnet he could poke it with a stick out the window ;)
An intricate system of levers and pulleys perhaps?
