Hi All,

Forgive my first post and if it is a stupid question. I've had an 08 159 1.9jtdm for a month now, am generally happy with everything and as a first time Alfa Romeo owner I can definitely see the perks of ownership.

One thing that I am concerned about is when driving and I need to change down a gear or when in stop start traffic on the motorway I get a beep noise. There are no warning signs on the dash and the car is operating as normal. Has anyone had any experience of this or can enlighten me as to what it is? Any help much appreciated before I call the dealer.

Thanks in advance

Last time this happened to me was caused by my laptop on the passenger seat. Everytime I braked the laptop moved enough for the seat to think it had a passenger without a seat belt.

Hi Old Engineer,

Thanks a lot for your reply. Sadly it is a different noise than the seat belt warning. It is a single bleep which lasts about a second and now all the time at low speeds when changing gear

thanks again

Thanks both for your reply and assistance.

I would say that it is similar to the parking sensor noise and becoming more frequent. Pretty sure that its not to do with the handbrake. It's going in to the dealer tomorrow and will report back..

Cheers

Morning All,

Took it to the dealer and feel rather foolish. The beep noise was most frequent last week when I was listening to Test Match Special on LW. It is still there and the guy who came out with me on the test drive said it is do to interference when braking and changing gear. He also said that the standard radio's in 159's are not up to much in general. At least there's nothing serious wtong with the car.

Thanks again for your assistance

Weirdly i had MW on last friday after the news of the BBC and the Grand Prix :( and got a repetitive 'beep' every so often...so now i know what you heard

but LOL thats comedy gold! Did you not think the beep had a bit of a 'staticy' sound to it?

I didn't think it was that funny but glad you did Moel!

I'm sure you can gather from my previous posts that my mechanical knowledge is pretty limited and I was just paranoid to hear a beep, beep noise driving up the M6!

Cheers

Just a thought: my 147 used to beep when the traffic announcement signal was lost. From memory it only did it when the radio was tuned to FM, "cured" by switching TA off.
