Hi all,

I just bought my first Alfa. I pick it up on friday from a private seller. Its a 2006 159 2.2 JTS. Im really new to Alfas although i know a decent amount about cars. I need to take it in for its 75k service on monday as its got 74 on the clock.

Do you guys have any suggestions on what i should look out for or what i should be getting done other than the standard 75k service. I have a bit of cash to spend on the service so i really want to get the car in tip top condition (mechanically) and get the engine cleaned and everything.

any help would be great

thanks

Ill post up photos soon

Not so much. The 2.2 JTS is bullet proof, is chain driven so there is no 72K belt change. Just get a good quality service and so long as there are no problems, happy driving!

Check for early steering rack degradation.

Check for front disc wear.

Non-catastrophic stretched timing chain has caused issues on a few
2.2s but that is the only engine issue so far reported on AO.

Otherwise it's bomb proof.

Very few reports of issues with the 2.2 JTS on this forum. Only thing I'd add is to consider a proper Hunter wheel alignment. Could potentially make a big difference to your tyre wear and handling. :)

i dont have a ti, was this wheel alignment problem only on the TI, the thread you provided is helpfull but too many posts, overall messy, wish a admin would open a thread and lock it with the final specifications

As far as I'm aware, it's not a "problem" per se, rather that Alfa choose to set up the car out of the factory with a relatively large amount of 'toe-in' (I think), and whilst this gives the handling characteristics that Alfa required, it can be detrimental to tyre wear (particularly on the inside edge of the tyre). A number of people have changed this to a slightly more 'parallel' alignment to get a better compromise between handling and wear.

I haven't had a hunter alignment done myself, as I'm told that this had been done by the previous owner. The handling characteristics seem fine, and the tyres seem to be wearing evenly, which support this. I'll see if I can dig out a receipt with the final figures for my car.

Edit: as far as I know the same thing applies for Lusso/Turismo as for TI, but the 'more appropriate' settings are different.
