Hello all,

I own a 2008 Alfa Romeo 159 1.9ti with the complete 'sports' package. I've had the car for a couple of years now and i've managed to tally the mileage up to 140k.

I originally bought the car at 118k where it required a new clutch from the off go, which I managed to repair with a bit of assistance.

The car ran fine with only the normal wear and tear parts needing replacing (brake pads, tires, oil, both front headlights etc..)

March 2016 - The car has needed two new front wishbones. The car was taken in for a full service where a coolant leak was detected which apparently is linked to the timing belt. This has been fixed with some sealant which could last either a couple of days or a couple of months. At the end of the month, both front coil springs cracked (heavy traffic and lots of potholes on my 80 mile journey per day, as much as I try to avoid them)

The front offside wheel has a serious problem where one of the bolts is so damaged that even an industrial gun cannot remove it. As such it's stuck in place and the coil cannot be replaced, which means the thing is like a time bomb waiting to spring through the wheel.

This month, the air conditioning packed in and the glow heating plugs warning started flashing.

It's not looking good to be honest. There is no warranty on the car, as expected for 140k miles. Has anyone else experienced these types of problems? Perhaps it's time to let go and wait for the new Giulia? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

For clarification: The car has had a timing belt change and new clutch a year ago, and full service one month ago.

If you can't DIY this is getting expensive and that wheel bolt must be sorted or a puncture will ruin your day. A good tyre specialist or garage should be able to drill it out with a cobalt drill set or similar. If the worst comes to the worst it is a very tedious job but can be done by grinding it out with a Dremil.

Where are you based?

I would also be interested to know who did the service and timing belt change.

Sounds like old age is catching up! Always a problem if you don't know how it was looked after before you.
The springs are known to be weak, replace with Eibach from alfisti.net
The wheel nut, if it can't be fixed, then maybe get a replacement hub etc from a breakers to save on parts.
Glow plugs, surprised they've lasted as long, could be a glow plug failure, the relay on the bulkhead, or fuse on the battery.

Hi all, thanks for your responses. I tried going to 3 different tire garages in my area today, all of which said that because the locking bolt has been chipped away and disfigured the tools they have cannot remove it. I was given numbers from 2 of the garage for other garages, however both were unable to even look at it today (granted..it's a Saturday)

I can only DIY the basic stuff, some stuff a little more advanced, but these bigger jobs I cannot do, plus with my normal job I am struggling to find the time. It is definitely adding up in costs, to the point where it's almost costing the same in repairs as it did the price of the car!

I'm from East Herts, and it was again a local garage which originally did the repairs. I have a feeling they didn't carry out the work they should have on some of the servicing and I refuse to go there again.

It's unfortunate but true, that I don't really know how the car was driven before I took ownership. For all I know, it could have been some boy racer where once getting into the 100k mark dumped it for another car.

I was thinking about buying the new Giulia (what a beauty...). An Audi A5 was in the mix, but i've heard some strong negative views on it.

Either way, I am trying to keep my 159 going until it's run down completely into the ground
