Hi Folks,

I have a 1999 Alfa 156 2.0 TS from new and owing to my job, travel a lot and am thinking to upgrading to 159 1.9 jdtm (see attached)

Alfa Romeo 159 1.9JTD SPORTIVO 1.9 JTD 16V - €8,950 - Used Cars on Carzone.ie - New & Used Cars in Ireland

Although I love the 156, it never let me down apart from the dumb owner not checking the oil enough back in 2004 that required a replacement engine.

I would be very interested to hear of your views to upgrade or not, I mean I have not test driven this 159 before, it really is a beaut (within budget), B&ME, Leather etc..

Any advice is much appreciated!

I've never driven the 159 but have been inside one. Personally, I found the 159 interior a much nicer and more comfortable place to be, and the exterior, especially the front end, is absolutely stunning!!!

Take the 159 for a test drive, I have the 1.9, it's got ample enough power and torque and can be easily tuned to 200bhp an 300ft lbs torque if you wanted.

I upgraded from the 156 to the 159, and have since spent a great deal of money on things that have gone wrong with it, something the 156 did not do.

Hi eeicai, I shall watch this thread with interest!

I’ve done over 140,000 miles in my 2001 2.0 TS Sportwagon and it, too, has never let me down. I’m looking for a nearly new 159 to replace it in the next month or so. (Smee Agen’s post doesn’t fill me with confidence! :()

Yes the 159 is an upgrade in all respects.
Only thing that was really better on the 156 range was fuel consumption if you compare them 3.2 to 3.2 as an example.

Did you go ahead with the upgrade eeicai? I replaced my 156 with a 5 month old 2.0 JTDm TI 159 Sportwagon just over two weeks ago. I couldn't be more pleased. So I shan't be posting on this forum again! :)

Hi Greyfield,

I sure did! Last Friday, got me an early 2009 159 Ti Red with 18k miles on the clock - looks stunning :)
Just watching the diesel levels, looks like it's dropping faster than a 2.0 TS 156!!

Speaking of which, there was lump in the old throat handing my beloved 156 back to the dealer after 13 years of faithful service
