Hi All,

Need some advice/Help here..

I have a '51' plate 156 2.0 t-Spark, when I bought the car it had one key, so I went to and bought a new one from Alfa, but they didn't have time to code it for me on the day, so I booked it in for three weeks later, duing that 3 weeks the battery went in the remote of the old key....

The car will now only be unlocked by the key and buttons will not work (after replacing the battery)

I have taken the car back to a small indipendent Alfa place to do the key codes for me, they had to call and Alfa dealers to get the code as I don't have the card that should be in the logbook....

The code is coming up as incorrect on the Afladiag, and they are sure this is the code and have checked with the dealer again.

What do I do now? they are saying that they can't do anything without the right code?

HELP!!

Its 20 quid for the codes and they can get it for you there and then.
All they do is look it up on the computer with your reg or chassis number. Daylight robbery really.

As for the key code problem.
Maybe someone has lost the key before and replaced the ecu and transponder chip etc from a salvage car.?
If this is the case then without the reg of the car they came from.
You really are up the creak without a paddle.
And im supprised at your dealer saying they didnt have the time to install the code to the key. It takes no more than 5 minutes.
Lazy barstewards.

Sorry to hear that the car is not responding to your key but don't panic just yet. It is sometimes the case that major disruption to the key (or battery problems) can cause the key and car to become out of sync with each other. This is more prevalent the longer the key is unused with the car.

On the good side, it is usually possible to reset the key often enough that it's internal code cycle re-syncs with the car using the following technique. Remove the battery from the key and reinsert then try the key with the car - you may get a long flash/light on when you first insert the battery, followed by normal flashing when you press the button subsequent times. Choose only one button to test at this stage for simplicity. You may have to do this battery removal, re-insertion and button test quite a few times to reset the key enough to have an effect (30 is the max I have ever heard). I will be interested to know how many times you need to do this for your car if it works.

Thanks, the buttons do not currntly work.... I'm worried about doing this as I only have one key and don't want to break the key so the car won't start!

The key broke as it got damanged by water. and I have changed the battery but the light on the key remote still doesn't work...

The new spare key has been cut to the car but has never synced with the alarm

Any suggestions?

Ok, you didn't mention the water damage before!
Water damage is potentially fatal. The circuits boards rot very easily and the most likely situation is that it is knackered if it stayed wet for longer than a day or so - and by that i mean that you didn't actively dry it out on a radiator or similar. I fix tons of keys and water damage repairs are a nightmare but I can usually fix about 50% of them if they are dried out soon enough.

I presume the new key will start the car ok and it is only the remote which is the problem? If so, take both keys to the dealer and get them coded. It is their problem to sort out seeing as they supplied you with the key.
Alternatively, if you can start the car with the new key then send me the other and I may be able to fix it for you Click here.

Think? You need to try it. You must go to your dealer, your local mechanic will not be able to do the work as you need the Alfa Examiner software. Alfadiag is not enough.

If even Alfa can't do it then you may need to get someone to reset your ECU. Do a search as there is a company who trades on here which specialises in ECUs.
