HI everyone. This is our first post as proud, albeit slightly frustrated and confused Alfa owners.

Our 2005 Alfa 156 2.4 20v JTD Veloce alarm just started going off the other day for no reason, i tried to deactivate with both key fobs but no job. We had to wait to alarm to stop, open door with key (setting alarm off again), pop the bonnet and use battery booster on battery. The battery appeared to be dead and have no charge. After boost was ok.

Took to 4 local garages for opinions - 2 said Alternator problem (probably because expensive) others said something big is draining battery.

the dealer paid or a new battery for us the day after we bought it because it failed to unlock and start (though on that occasion alarm didnt go off).

Anyway we are just abit lost. Dealer was over 100 miles away and would appreciate any suggestions or advice.

other points, was fine tuesday, alarm going off wednesday, fine on thursday, alarm going off Friday. Oil warning message also came on Wednesday/Friday. Also radio lost all stations we had programed in (not sure if any of that is relevant)

thanks so much for any advice

All sounds like a flat battery.

Does it have the correct battery fitted?

Are any lights on when they shouldn't be?
(obviously you can't check when the battery is flat, but when it isn't look at the rears to see if they are on dim when they are switched off)

Hi thanks for reply. Battery is brand new, 4 days old, showing full charge most the time until this fault occurs. Then full again after car boosted. We have checked all lights too. From driving home, parking up the alarm is going off about 2 hours later (on the last 2 occasions its happened). It does appear to be setting off because battery low we think because we cannot use fob to deactivate and indicator lights dont seem to be flashing... BUT we just cannot fathom how its getting drained in 2 hours... then working fine for 48 hours (approx).

thanks again for any replies

You say it is "showing full charge", how have you checked that?

Have you got a electrical test meter?

Yeh. We are going to keep a record over the next few hours of level. 12.7 at present (charges when revs too so not a sign of alternator)

Now it is dark out, have a walk round to see if any lights are on dim.

Try removing positive and negative battery connections cleaning and fitting nice and tight. Likely the alarm's going off because it thinks the battery has been disconnected whilst it's armed.

Do you live somewhere where it's likely to get broken into or nicked? If not, don't alarm it.
