Hi all ,

I have just fitted a new window switch to my daughter's 3 door 147 where the old one had disintegrated , all plugs in ok but there is a strange occurance - the mileage on the dashboard display flashes continually and there is a beep when the switch is activated , but the windows do not operate , could this be a coding problem or do you think this is the wrong switch - or has anyone else experienced this ?

all comments apprecaited !

thanks

The switch is a node on the CAN network and communicates with the body controller to open the windows.

3 things:

1) Be very sure that its properly connected and that no pins are bent on the connectors
2) Disconnect the battery for 10 minutes to see if it accepts it
3) It may indeed be incompatable, or might need a reset via examiner
4) It could simply be faulty and the CAN network cant poll it.

Flashing odometer means there is a CAN communication error.

Flashing mileage indicates a CANBUS error, though you should get a beep when the switch is activated. I don't know why it doesn't work. Probably a body computer reset thing. Talk to a specialist Alfa garage. Locally, Monzasport are very good.

Hi the electric window switch is an ECU in itself. The new unit needs to be proxy aligned with the body computer using the Fiat EXAMINER. You will need to visit your local dealer or specialist with this machine.

Where abouts in the UK are you? Hope this helps.:)

What ever happened to the good old days of plug it in and it works ! I just had a thought and tried the switch ( it is secondhand btw ) on our GT - guess wot it only works ! does this mean that the switch probably came from a GT and will only work on one , or will it work when aligned ( the connections wiring etc are all the same ) just my luck that a simple task turns out the opposite ,

cheers

... i didn't know that people outside of South Africa used the term "trek"... :)

My 147's at the shop getting a new one fitted too... someone replaced my 5door's control with the 3door version - so there are no "rear" or "childlock" buttons!!!
