hello everone I am changing my engine in my alfa 146 at the momment and just wondering would anyone know if I should change the computer that is left to the air flow meter because I was wondering for code reasons, they are both 1.4 twinspark but one is a 1999 and other is 2000 I noticed that the gearboxs are different and flywheel at cluch and drive shafts

A 1999 and 2000 model of the same engine capacity should be identical so I'm confused when you say the gearbox, flywheel and driveshafts appear different unless a previous owner made some changes to one of the cars

The changeover year from phase 1 (pre-facelift) to phase 2 (facelift) was 1997. If both of the cars have the ECU mounted on top of the throttle body housing along from the MAF then they are both phase 2 engines and should have identical ECUs.

Look at the codes on the bottom of the ECU and see if they match which I would expect them too (i.e. the ECUs used on both cars should be identical).

yes the ecu seem the same and they plug in to the loom only thing I am worried about is will the code key come on now as I am going to be using a different ecu or are they programed into the ecu?

If you do swap over the engine ECU then you will also need to take the yellow CODE immobiliser from the same car because it is paired with the engine ECU. You will also then need to swap over the small back immobiliser chips from inside the keys of that car. The ECU swap will then work with no CODE immobiliser issues.
