Hi All, Has anyone managed to find a way to get the airbag light reset withought going to the dealer? There only appears to be three wires, one for ground and two "signal wires". most old volvos had a diagnostic block in the eng bay where you could move a floating wire into a port on the block and once you pressed the button you could read off the code. Once it was read a few times the ECU reset. I'm thinking  that there must be some way to reset the airbag ECU by either driving one of the "signal" wires high to 12 volts etc, Problem is if you don't know how the wires work then your as good as pXXXXXg in the wind.

Anyone wish to hazard a guess or have a proven idea?

Cheers Andy

Why's the light on in the first place? For the sake of about £25, I would just take it to a decent backstreet garage, they will be able to reset it with their diagnostic kit.

HI Rob, I've tried contacting alfadiag via mail, which appears to be the only way, but I've had no responce for abot a week now. The engine code on my GTV does not show on their chart so I was wanting conformation before purchasing the software. I don't want to go and get the dealer to reset it as 1) they aint close and 2) it appears to be a common problem. Cheers for the info though.

Some times it's a faulty seat belt pre tensioner so it's worth getting it looked at properly if it doesn't fire in an accident it reduces the effectiveness of you belts

Do you have an Indie specialist near you? that could be the answer, just make sure they don't rip you off. A fiat specialist should be able to do it too, AFAIK it's the same system they use.

Got the same problem after disconnecting the ECU and instruments for fault diagnosis on a speedo fault. Spoken to Alfashop in Norwich, (a great mail order and service company I recommend unreservedly) will let you know when they ring me back.

I have learnt of a procedure for reseting the light withought any dealers etc. I'm going to try it if I ever get the tub out of the garage, which has become it's new home. If it works I will reveal all!

Andy has other posts relating to this, I think he discovered his was a TRW 'type-2' and as such Alfadiag won't dela with it. I havent' looked at mine yet.

How do you tell which one you have. I have a ph2 3.0L and I am sure it has a 16 way block near my right knee under the dash, but I will check for a 3 pin under thr chairs today.
cheers

You'll be talking to it through the OBD 16pin plug next to the fuseboard as far as I can tell. to find out what airbag control unit you have I think you take off the trim next to the drivers left shin on the centre consol and have a poke around in side - probably with a torch and a mirror!!

so the airbag ecu's are behind the centre consol area on the later cars?
mine is under the rear seat, it's a trw unit, i was hoping for a becker, my car is a 1996 model.
anyone actually found one of those becker unit's on a car, i doubt it.
